Hi all,

Currently looking into getting a custom set for micro stakes and been seeing some different color chips for 25c on mass produced chip sets. Is there a "standard" color for 25c chips like there is for the denominations above $1? I've seen brown or blue. Thanks!

really, there isn't much of a standard. Perhaps fractionals tend to have an odd color vs what is common for the rest of the lineup. It is pretty uncommon for a $0.25 chip to be found in commercial play anymore. Go wild!

Hah! I love how they gave up with following the theme for the first place.

Agreed. Not really a standard color. Kind of a personal preference if you’re building your own set. I used to have both pink and blue for my 25¢. And I found myself liking the blue better, mainly cause I wanted to keep the traditional blue color even though I’m not using a $10 chip.

Noted. Yeah I was really debating between brown or blue but none of the tinas seemed to have a good brown chip art. I'm a huge fan of following convention though, so this is good to know.

Way back in the day the traditional denoms for a home set were:

1 - white
5 - red
10 - blue

Then some nerd came along and figured out that the 10 chip was not efficient, and the most efficient chip sets have a 4 or 5x value jump between denominations.

So I kept the blue as my 25¢. But really any color works so long as it’s not blending in with other colors

Always the nerds... (I am also a nerd:LOL: )

Is there such a thing?
Any color that contrasts your $1, $5, and $25 is fine for a frac.
I actually tried a brown quarter once, but I found it was too close to my red $5.

I was looking at the chip art options and didn't find one that particularly spoke to me. Also more so that I wanted to follow "convention" if there was one, but seems like there isn't one! I know. A little bit of a rule follower here.

If you were using real casino chips, most likely you'd convert that casino's $2.50 snapper (Pink) or a $2, $3 or $4 Drop Chip into your frac. With Tina's you have unlimited freedom of choice. Good luck.

Nothing already unsaid, but depends on your lineup, how far your set covers, if going with ceramic vs compression molded (IMO brown is better in compression molded), etc..

I like Brown, Grey, Pink, Orange and Blue.. just because they'll be typically less confused with other denoms IF mostly using other standard colors in your lineup.

Quick example to show why I like them (aka these "standards/alts" might be wrong, don't shoot me).

There are Vegas sets and California sets. Vegas tends to follow the blue or white fur the $1, red $5, green $25, black $100. California uses different colors, for example, the 5 is often yellow purple or black $20 and white $100. I don't think there is a written code, as far as I know, just the way it's been. Since quarters are mostly a thing of the past in casinos, a lot of people have used the snappers out of the casino chips that come up for sale here. That's usually a pink chip.

When you're building your set you can do whatever the heck you want. Find something that interest you and works with the rest of your chips.

To double down on Cratty & KHarp1; pick the set color scheme you want. I choose by my workhorse chip which is $5. Do you want a great red Chip or Yellow to build from. The same goes for traditional muted colors or bright CA colors. Go with what you like. I personally am all about flashy bright radioactive colors in my sets.

Some of the chips in working with on my "custom" set. I'm leaning towards ditching the green Jumers $25, making the white chips my 1, which leaves me still looking for that final chip to complete the set. I started with the pink and yellow "Pink Lemonade" chip (my $5) as my centerpiece, and started working out from there.

Not my pic... but for some reason I've held on to it and find it handy when thinking about frac colors for sets.
