Looking to put together a new set and after several hours of reading (thank you to everyone who posts great information) I’ve narrowed it down to either brpro or Sunfly. Based on suggestions, got a sample set of brpro’s, but Sunfly quoted over $50 for samples. Does anyone have a single Sunfly Polychrom chip that I could either buy or borrow for a couple of days to understand their feel?

Thanks!

Well, SunFly has to send samples all the way from Hong Kong, so there's that. Maybe somebody close to you has some samples of the Imperial Palace group buy chips you can handle.

Yup, totally makes sense, if I order through them I'll order an extra 25 or 50 just so I can share them with people who need them later. :-)

I have trouble keeping track of the names of the Sunfly lines. Are Imperial Palace the Polychrome that OP is looking for? If so, I have a complete sample set.

I see you are in Austin. It's also possible that @nlhenerd or @toothpic might have some Sunfly samples. If not, I'm going to be in Austin next weekend. It's possible we could meet up somewhere and you could check out what I have.

Not sure if I have any Sunfly samples left. I’ll check later today.

Can anyone verify if these are sunfly? I think so but not 100% sure

Ok, did some searching and they are 43mm Sunfly chips.

@ourremotelife PM me and if you're up north maybe we can meet up somewhere. If you're downtown or south then they are yours for the price of shipping.

OK, I had to go look. The Sunfly chips with labels (hybrids) are called PolyInno. That's what the ones in the photos from @toothpic are, as well as the Imperial Palace sample set that I have. The PolyChrome (what the OP wants) are the smooth surface chips that are fully dye sublimation printed. Similar to the chinese "Tina" no molds.

See link to Sunfly descriptions.

Ahh yea they are defintely hybrids just made by Sunfly. I was never a big fan of cermanics so didn't get any of the sunfly ceramics I don't think. Unless the scrub donkey chips were made by Sunfly. Can't remember.

I've heard the Sunfly chips have glossy edges, like the BRPro chips. Do those hybrids have glossy edges?
All the Tina molds so far have matte edges.
Yes. All Sunflys that I have seen have glossy edges. But I have never handled the Polychrom chips. I do have a Polychrom dealer button and it too has a glossy edge.

@ourremotelife
I have a barrel of Polyclay chips from Sunfly with the Ascona mold. Nice chips. Not what you are asking for (Polychrom), though. But I can send you a few chips at the cost of shipping.

Have you also considered Tina ceramics?

I got 4 chips of Textured Sun-Fly PolyChrom, in new condition and it's their Lucky Dragon version. I also got 6 Smooth Sun-Fly PolyChrom chips (the smooth ones is just white blanks, not printed). All 39mm.

Not much of sample, but if interested PM me and you could get those for free, just pay shipping.

Yes, did consider Tina’s, but leaned away from them as all the posts I read suggested they weren’t as nice as the sunflys or brpro’s.

Honestly, you should make this decision for yourself and not take the word of others. If you generally like traditional ceramic chips, and you are okay with the rounded, glossy edges, then you probably will be happy with Sunfly chips. But there are a segment of us PCFers who actually prefer Tina's chips over Sunfly, myself included. This is because I have a strong preference for clay chips over typical flat (no mold) ceramics. The Tina cards mold and the newer hybrid chips are designed to emulate a clay chip more than most ceramics.

Also, if bright, vibrant colors are important to you, then Tina chips blow Sunfly away. On every Sunfly chip I've ever seen, the colors are dull and muted.

Here are a couple of pics of Tina hybrids mixed in with some CPCs.

Ok, you’ve got me curious. If you’re still up for connecting for a couple of minutes when you’re in town this weekend I’d appreciate seeing them in person. Happy to meet you wherever it is convenient.

Do you still have these? I’m currently looking for Ascona samples
