I suck at this. I know there are a few members that excel at coming up with structures. I'll be hosting anywhere from 10-20 players. I'm looking for a structure that goes for 5-6 hours (I know its not an exact science, just a ball park figure). The first 4 levels are 20 minutes long. The rest are 30 minutes. Antes will be used, level 4 or 5 is fine.

350 x 25's
350 x 100's
175 x 500's
100 x 1k's
25 x 5k's

I fired up a 10k schedule. Would a 5k maybe be better?

Starting Stacks

16 x $25
16 x $100.00
8 x $500
4 x 1k

10k in chips

I'm going to work on a structure and will post it. Just thought I would get this going.

Thanks in advance,

B

25-50 30 minutes
50-100 30 minutes
75-150 30 minutes
100-200 30 minutes

break all future levels are 20 minutes

150-300 ante 25
200-400 ante 50
300-600 ante 50

break/color up the 25's

500-1k ante 100
700-1400 ante 100
1k-2k ante 200
1300-2600 ante 300

break

1600-3200 ante 400
2k-4k ante 400
2500-5k ante 500

break/color up the 100's

3k-6k ante 500
3500-7k ante 1k
4k-8k ante 1k
5k-10k ante 2k

I added a schedule in the OP. I obviously don't know what I'm doing with the antes. If the game ends with the big blind equaling the starting stack were looking at 6.5 hours (not counting antes in that equation though).

suggestions on improving it? @BGinGA I believe your the expert here?

Thanks

B

Your 10K starting stacks (16/16/8/4) are fine, especially since the T25 and T100 chips will be used for antes. You will have 15xT500, 20xT1000, and 25xT5000 remaining to color-up the T25 and T100 chips (unlikely to reach a point where T500 chips can be removed, since they will be used for antes in the later rounds).

Your structure above is a little inconsistent, with the blind increases ranging from only 14% to as high as 67% (with one 100% jump thrown in). It will also run close to 7 hours with breaks for two tables.

For 20 players with 10K stacks, antes, and a 6-hour duration, I'd go with something like the structure below. All increases are between 33%-50%, averaging 43%:

(L1-L4 are 30 minutes, all others are 20 minutes)

rd sb bb ante
L1 25 50 0
L2 25 75 0
L3 50 100 0
L4 75 150 0
break
L5 100 200 25
L6 150 300 25
L7 200 400 50
L8 300 600 75
remove T25 chips
L9 400 800 100
L10 600 1200 100
L11 800 1600 200
L12 1200 2400 300
L13 1800 3600 400
remove T100 chips
L14 2500 5000 500
L15 3500 7000 500
L16 5000 10000 1000 ****
L17 7000 14000 1500
L18 10000 20000 2000

A 10-player event will typically finish no later than L14 (about 5 hours), and 20 players will rarely finish later than L16 (usually about 6 hours).

Below is an alternate schedule using more conventional blind amounts. It will last about 20 minutes longer than the one above.

(L1-L4 are 30 minutes, all others are 20 minutes)

rd sb bb ante
L1 25 50 0
L2 25 75 0
L3 50 100 0
L4 75 150 0
break
L5 100 200 25
L6 150 300 25
L7 200 400 50
L8 300 600 75
L9 400 800 100
L10 600 1200 150
remove T25 chips
L11 800 1600 200
L12 1000 2000 300
L13 1500 3000 400
L14 2000 4000 500
L15 3000 6000 600
L16 4000 8000 800
remove T100 chips
L17 6000 12000 1000 ****
L18 8000 16000 1500
L19 10000 20000 2000

Note: If using a 25/75 level bothers you, simply replace L1-L4 with these:
L1 25 50 0
L2 50 100 0
L3 75 150 0
L4 100 200 0
Adding a T25 ante to 100/200 blinds at L5 is nearly the same as increasing the blind amounts.

Jesus, someone needs to gather dave's tourney structures up and put them all into there own sticky. Or maybe @BGinGA could just make a book

Personally not a fan of the 30 min blind levels in L1-4, but primarily because it is such a divergence from the rest of the tourney. The other reason is 2 hours before a pee-break OMG... :) My preference would be to keep to the 20 mins (or close to it) throughout, then use the more standard progression BG posted (second). Maybe 25 min levels 1-4, then the standard progression (which should make the tourney finish in the same time)?

Otherwise, it's hard to beat BG's structures (with the exception of the 25/75 level, where we always disagree). He's correct of course, but very few people mind the 100% jump with 25/50 and 50/100 (at such low levels).

For our standard league games the first 4 levels are 20 minutes long. Then they go to 30 minutes long. I actually love this format. However, for an unlimited rebuy tourney it doesn't work. The early levels just move to quickly, and that is when most will do the multiple rebuys.

Thanks @BGinGA
