History & Background

The defunct Brighton Hotel & Casino opened in 1876. It was a five-story wooden structure, with the first outdoor pool on the Atlantic City boardwalk, and one of the last wooden hotels to be demolished. In 1958 the original wood structure was demolished and rebuilt to modern standards. The Brighton then became The Sands Atlantic City from 1980 until 2006.

In October 2023, I purchased “The Brighton” relabeled cash set (In near-mint condition) from @BillyBluff . This Brighton Reverse Tophat & Cane (RHC) set was completed in two phases. Phase I consisted of 680 chips from 0.25¢ to $25, a custom dealer button, and custom cut cards. Phase II saw the addition of 320 additional chips and a second custom dealer button.

To ensure an accurate recreation, both @BillyBluff and I did our best to integrate the history of The Brighton Hotel & Casino - Atlantic City from multiple different time frames during its existence, including logos, chip color, and inlay shape progression.

The Chips & Inlays

0.25¢… Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino (Gardena, California) $1
$1… Horseshoe Southern Indiana (HSI) $1A secondary
$5… JACK Cincinnati $5 secondary
$25… JACK Detroit $25 primary
$100… JACK Cincinnati secondary $100
$500… Horseshoe Southern Indiana (HSI) $500 primary

The inlay labels were designed by @JeepologyOffroad and made by @Gear.

The Accessories

The Brighton “Butterfly” Dealer button and cut cards are based on the 1980’s logo. They were given an updated design by @JeepologyOffroad. The dealer button was made by BR Pro Poker and the custom cut cards were ordered through a group buy that was organized by @Eloe2000 (though the actual manufacturer is unknown at this time).

The Brighton “Neptune” dealer button is based on a design I found on a postcard. The design was cleaned up and refined by @mattross1313, and made by BR Pro Poker.

Found this when searching for the CPC set, but this is also Fantastic!! and should get more love!

Are the HSI 1a’s milled in the center to take a smaller label? Great set.

No, this was an original error in the factory. They were supposed to be made on the THC mold (standard 7/8" inlay), but they goofed up and used the RHC mold instead, which left an excess of recess. So removing the original inlay will leave a recess within a recess.

These would have been such great THCs, too. Potentially a couple hundred thousand of them. (boohoo)

The set hit the felt for the first time about a month ago, and got a lot of compliments - some people were even taking pictures and posting them on Instagram.

A lot of crazy hands within the first hour, straight flush, quads, boat over boat… it was a nice 7 hour session.

Dang, so there’s a little recess under all my HSI 1a labels???  You’d think you’d be able to tell, or there would a lot of defects in the labels.

Well, it's really an inlay within a recess, since the laminated vinyl label is pressed into the surface of the chip while the chip body is still hot and deformable.
