New to the forum but avid Chip lover and Poker player. Sob story: I purchased 750 Casino de Isthmus Paulsons about 10ish years ago for $700 and they have been stolen.

So I'm ready to buy more and have come to realize that even if you're willing to pay, they are CRAZY hard to get (spoke with Josh at Apache).

What is your advice if I want either the classics, Pharoahs or Casino de Isthmas Paulsons in the denominations below????

120 x blue generic ones (Pharoah) or .25 or .50 for the other sets
300 x $1
260 x $5
60 x $25
40 x $100
20 x $1000

Thanks for your help!!!

Keep an eye on eBay and the classifieds here. Also consider other paulsons. Casino sets go up for sale too.

@Chicken Rob - Definitely open to others, I just want the ability to play .50/1 cash if possible (with family). Looks like there are a lot of limitations on the chips I see available. I will keep looking, thx for the heads up.

Yeah, check out e CPC customs. Get a sample set of a few different molds if you don't have experience with them. They aren't paulsons, but they are quite nice. Browse the custom chip posts for inspiration, and if you need help, there will be no shortage of people to help find your way.

The only one who would steal the chips is an insider who knew they had value. No thief would lug something with no value( except to a trained eye )and that much weight.

Unless the thief intended to take a trip to the Casino de Isthmus and cash the chips in. Then it would totally be worth lugging around that kind of weight. :)

Welcome to PCF.. You have lots of choices to get a set, Custom's (you will probably end up with one if you stick around long enough) BUT you can start with Roulette's, mixed sets, closed casino sets... As most have already said, check the adds hear and Fee bay..

Good luck on getting a chip set..

Thanks! Working with Apache now to see if we can put something close together. Would you recommend Customs over Paulson Classics or Grand Victoria??? Would be surprising but I have never dug into the custom chip world.

Side note: Games are with good friends and family so not concerned that others could have the same chips and cash in at my game.

For some of the nicer CPC custom sets, what is a price per chip estimate all in?

Check out their website, but for an example you could get really nice Custom inlayed clays for between about $1.11 - $2.20 ea , depending on edgespot and mold choices, and, "Artwork fees for in-house designs are from $50 per order" ...

Ok, so possibly a little less expensive but sounds like somewhere in the ballpark.

I still have questions on if they are as nice as Paulsons. I'd need a sample set I'd imagine. When I look, there are too many damn options :)

Make sure you get some from each mold before deciding whether you like the way they feel or not. I have sample sets from >=4 of the different molds. Two of them I really like, one of them is okay/good, and one I think feels like crappy plastic chips.

^^^What he said. It's very subjective. You'd need some samples of each mold to really know what you think about each one.

My personal opinion: all of them are better than the PAULSON CHIPS mold (what the CDI, Pharaohs, and some other home lines used.) About half of them are better than the RHC (Paulson Reverse Hat & Cane mold - very common among the casino chips you'll find.) A couple of them are about as good as the Paulson TH&C mold (less common among casino chips, especially more recent ones - pretty tough to just buy a playable set without hunting for awhile.)

OK, so open question, Which mold feels the nicest to give me a starting place? I'd rather not spend $200 on samples.

If you ask everyone on the site, the consensus will be the Diamond-Square by a mile. It's also the most expensive, and has a pretty unique feel to it (may not be everyone's cup of tea.)

The 3 cheapest molds (A-crest, Circle-Square, and Horsehead) are all fine choices and may offer the best bang for your buck, and all three definitely feel different. I'd definitely start with those 4.

Most would agree that the Hourglass and Cards&Dice molds are at or near the bottom of the list.

Start here

A sample of every CPC mold runs $17-$20

All the colors $48, or $92 if you don't want to play the game of trying to figure out which chip is which color - which can be a challenge because the hues are very close sometimes.

This bears repeating: Get samples of molds and colors. You'll want a complete color sample set, but for the molds select a few and get several of each. It's nearly impossible to assess a mold by handling just one chip. You'll find that this is money well spent.

Thx, I will certainly do that if I go that route. There's also the 2-6 month wait issue. Don't know if I want to wait quite that long. Looks like I have a line on Paulson Classics and Grand Victorias in the denoms I want.

Customs do take a while, especially considering that you could spend more time selecting a mold, choosing colors and spot patterns, and developing an inlay than the actual production time. You can always sell the Paulsons later on. Or keep them and get customs too, as many of us have. (y)
