I’ve been working on a set for way too long (CT days) with life getting in the way. I'm getting back to the project and need some help putting the final touches on it.

Using H-Mold. Last name starts with H and using it on the inlay.

I’m working with colors that represent where I’ve lived:

Frac – wife’s high school colors, $1 – my high school colors, plus grew in Iowa and it resembles the Iowa state flag, $5 – college (Texas A&M, plus a spot from each of my daughters’ colleges), $25 ($20) – Dallas (using Cowboys), $100 – Pittsburgh (Steelers):

As I was making sure this was how I wanted it, I looked at the Steeler’s logo and realized I could do 412 or 414 and leave the 9:00 position black and have the chip mimic the logo.

I thought this was a unique idea, or at least I have not seen a chip like this, and since I live in Pittsburgh, I thought the players would like it as well. But with it being a $100 chip, it wouldn’t see the light of day very much, if at all. I did try to use a white base, since the logo is on a white background, but didn’t look as good. Then I thought I should use it as the $1 and join #teamblackdollar so it would be in play. This leads to an issue of the maroon $5 chip, especially since it also has red and yellow.

I tried making the spots white to just have it represent TAMU, but I don’t like the look of using two very dark colors next to each other.

My second idea to represent TAMU, would be to reference the previous tradition of Aggie Bonfire (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggie_Bonfire) and use either red or an orange. I keep hearing about DG tiger being a great color, so this might be a good spot for it. I also thought I could represent the twelve students that died when it collapsed in 1999 (https://bonfire.tamu.edu/) by using 6D18 or 6DSA18+. TAMU also has the 12th man tradition, so it would have double meaning.

While this chip would have more meaning, the 12 spots look out of place with the rest of the set. Reverting to 3DSA316 helps make the set more cohesive as well as gets saves a decent chuck of change but loses some meaning. I could use the cog inlay, that has 12 cogs to help get that aspect?

My first question is whether the Steeler black chip is just trying too hard or is it worth moving it to $1 and joining #teamblackdollar?

If yes, go with the 12 or 6 spots on the $5? I'll decide on specific color and if 3D18 or 3DSA18+ later and would like to hear opinions.

This is my first design post, what am I missing and/or what else needs to be considered?

I like the idea, but as an Aggie, I don't think orange should be used to represent us....LOL...

Would love to get a sample of the Steeler chip whichever way you decide to go. Been a Steeler fan for almost 50 years, not the easiest thing to do or explain when you grew up and live in Texas.

I like the Browns / Bengals chip the best :-)

Funny you said that @doublebooyah85. Just last night I was playing around with the Chip Design Tool myself trying to come up with a Browns chip. Plus as soon as I saw his $5.00 in the OP above I immediately thought it looked like a Cavaliers chip. But then I saw the Cowboys and Steelers chips and immediately puked. LOL!

I kid @Aggie930 I kid. You did a nice job with your designs. I have no doubt that any fans of those teams here on PCF will definitely want samples if you make them available. As for your original question... my own humble opinion is to just go with your gut instinct. I truly love the fact that there are some chip "conventions" or "traditions" where certain colors and inlay shapes historically represent certain denominations. But I also think that a chip designer should never ever be afraid to break those conventions or traditions if the situation warrants it, especially when designing their own custom set with meanings derived from their personal life and experiences. So I vote that you heed the advice of good old Polonius from Hamlet: “This above all: to thine own poker chip designer self be true.”

Good point. I guess I've been away too long and since we haven't played tu in over 10 years, I kinda forgot about them. Maybe red is better.

Although, it is tiger not orange. But then does it represent LSU or Mizzu?

No problem. I'm not a huge fan of either team, but I do lean towards the cowboys. After being a Cowboy's fan in the late 70s, this is the last place I thought I would ever live. I also seem to bring good luck to the team before they have a fall from grace. Moved to Dallas after college in 1994 and then to Pittsburgh in 2008.
