For the last few months, we have had everyone throw in $5 towards a high hand for the night and high hand quad 10's or better ($2.50 in each pot).

We had our high hand hit last month with Q-Q-Q-Q taking home just over $200.

The question now is, what else could we use the $5 for? Bounties, bad beat, house rake?

I need some suggestions to throw up on our group facebook page!

Bounties, bad beat, aces cracked, Royal flush (and straight flush) bonuses, 72 bounty, rack attacks (for the cash game) to name a few

Ah gotcha. I started doing lottery scratchers occasionally and that has helped get action moving a little better more quickly at my game.

We've done a River flip (buy a card before the tourney, if it's the river card on the last hand, you win the pool, otherwise it rolls over).

Now, we do a final table showdown. Make a final table, draw a random card. At the last event if the season, showdown for the best hand. Winner take the prize pool.

We did a BBJ, but it was a book keeping nightmare. You could only win a percentage based on how many weeks you got in. So a guy would hit a 9-event old qualifier but he'd only got in for the last 3 weeks, so it paid it less than the full pot... It would be easier if you just gave out the whole BBJ to anyone in it for that event

$5 seems steep for a house rake, but I suppose that depends on the buy in and if you are doing food/beer. If you have a big investment in your chips, table or other supplies for hosting the game, a small amount each game might make sense for that. Maybe you could try a losers bracket game where some number of players start a second game. It could be setup with smaller stakes and faster blinds.

Most people will be happy with bounties.

What is the 72 bounty?

If you win a hand outright with 72, everyone has to pay a predetermined amount (eg. $5). Doesn’t matter if it’s a bluff or if you flop quad 7s. Makes a cash game much more interesting.

Yeah, played that for a cash game, but not tournaments. OP was asking about how to to trick up tournaments I believe.

I don't mind the 72 game for cash... I'm not fond of gimmicks that change the way the a hand plays in a tournament... Is that weird?

Not tournament chips but $5 cash on the side?

Then you would need an unknown amount of cash handy to play the tournament. Don't like that. Seems like it should the SB or BB. Which could be a hefty payment late in the tournament.

Not weird. But the object is to get chips, and this would be to the same goal.
