I have recently gotten into the disney Lorcana TCG off of a non chipper friend's reccomendation. I was wondering if anyone here had trading card game experience.

No way, I escaped the black hole of inflated prices and resale market that was Magic the Gathering and came to this nice safe cheap hobby instead

Joking aside I was big into M:tG in like the early '00s and played with my dad, but quickly realized I wasn't interested enough to purchase the new set boosters and crap every six months to stay competitive. I'll hop on to one of the online versions from time to time and enjoy a game or three with one of the prebuilt decks but that's about it any more.

Deckbuilding seems the hardest to do, and I don't want to buy hundred dollar cards that are the meta.

Yeah, that's where you need to decide if you're playing competitively or for funsies. For funsies is a lot cheaper and imo more fun. Excuse to get to the FLGS and the like rather than what turns into an unhealthy (and expensive) obsession with sticking with/beating "the meta" for a lot of people.

ETA: you can go to untap.in to play for free with people and enjoy the deckbuilding without the expense of the collecting. But for a lot of folks collecting is half the point.
