Ive been meaning to some pics of my Trops for a while. Its been a long journey, but I picked up the final addition at DCS, and now can say this set is officially done. It may not be the biggest set of Trops out there, but I would argue it's the Best. All chips are Uncirculated except for the $1s. The Ones are in excellent condition and were the first batch cherry picked from the original lot. They were plucked well before the Spinnettis hoard was picked over. The Quarters were custom hot stamps through Apache.

I Originally bought 600 chips about 10 years ago when Tonypap sold off his set, but the breakdown limited its use to smaller games. I tried to add on several times, but because of the huge difference between the Used condition 5's and the Uncirculated 5's, I was determined not to mix. I bought several small lots and samples over time, but I was still severely light on $5s. I did try buying several larger sets and trying to Cherry pick the VG $5s, but this was a fools errand.

Eventually, I crossed paths with @41Pickup who was in the process of building his own mega set. He had come across a couple of Unc. racks which didn't really fit in with his set, and he was willing to sell them off. At this point I was able to run a full 10 seat game, but still light on $5s for the way the MA/NH games play.

I spent the next few years searching for more $5s, but the well was completely dry. I couldn't even find singles on eBay (though I found many that claimed to be UNC. but weren't). About a year ago I gave up hope. I was convinced that there was no more UNC $5's out there, and I would never be able to build the set that I wanted. I even started to sell off some of my excess $1s, since the dream was dead. Then, enter @H|Q

Through Harley's many Tropicana dealings he found a source who was still sitting on a few racks of Mint chips. He could have kept them for himself, or sold them off, but he knew how much I wanted them, and he reached out to include me in the deal. I was still skeptical, that they wouldn't actually be UNC, but was elated when he sent the pictures after opening the package. Now I can run 1-2 tables.

Thanks to all those who helped me put this set together. I should also give a shout out to @legend672 who hooked me up with my missingTournament chips....but that is for another thread. Enjoy:

Man, those redbirds are scrumptious...congrats! The patience of a ten year journey has paid off!

Stunning set and stunning dedication. Congrats on the completion, Scott!

Love it! Nice work man. If it's going to be a long journey, this is one of those sets that's worth it. Congrats.

Amazing, I have to say that hundo is probably my favorite retired Vegas chip....!
Congrats

Those are awesome! It takes Great determination to build an uncirculated set. Best set of 2nd edition Trops on the planet!

i want trops, should have pulled the trigger years ago, love the quarter

Agreed. Scott, do you know who owns that hot stamp? Any chance of it being available to those of use with used sets?

I am willing to grovel, if necessary.

Im not exactly sure what you mean? Are you talking about the artwork or the actual dies?

I am interested in getting some fractional hot stamps made for my Trops as well. I have a couple of email addresses alleged to be "the guy to talk with" but no one has ever responded.

I meant the actual dies -- the artwork would be pretty easy to replicate.

I have no clue. I had a similar conversation with Josh regarding the whereabouts of his GCR dies. I assume they may be at GPI somewhere? @Apache might have some insight.

If you can track them down, you are free to use them... Provided they work on whatever stamping equipment would be used.
