Tempting to switch to two decks in a rotating self dealt STT. For those that do this, or when a MTT reaches the final table, is there a point in time that you go back to a single deck once so many players remain??

No, two decks is always preferred. I don't see why it wouldn't be: soon as one hand ends another can begin shortly after while the previous dealer shuffles, someone else cuts, and then the process starts again.

@detroitdad even then I hope to have someone else shuffling for us so we can finally finish the damn tournament!

If there is a shuffler, then yes. Keep two decks going. If there isn't a shuffler, I think two decks slows the game down once it is heads up. In my defense, I rarely play tourneys, and I am rarely heads up lol

No defense needed, that does make sense. I remember losing heads up to someone that was piss drunk because I was so annoyed at how long it took to shuffle during his stories. Gave away 1st place money!!

I will usually suggest the switch to one deck at 4 handed. Then you usually just have the two players that are across the table from each other just passing the same deck back and forth, if you continue with two decks. I just don't love the look of that, even though I imagine it would almost never lead to a cheating issue.

EDIT TO ADD: If you happen to have a dedicated dealer and can just rotate the shuffle, you can certainly keep two decks in play until the end.
