Hi All,

I have for sale, two racks of Paulson Starbursts. 1 rack of brown, 1 rack of pink. Overall, I would say chips are in good to very good condition, but it does vary chip to chip. The brown chips are an overlay stamp, the pinks are not.

As with most starbursts, the stamp quality varies. Some are a bit deep, some are fading slightly, and there are a few with no stamp. I have included pictures of some of the "issue" chips, but can always include more by request. All chips will stand on end, but there is also the occasional chipping.

Asking $100/rack shipped, OBO. Please let me know of any questions!

Nice work thread crapping.

Genuine question, is flipping chips looked down upon here? I am new to the hobby, so my apologies if it is.

I'll admit, I bought these with the intention of keeping a few as a sample for myself and selling the rest. The gentleman I purchased them was aware of their value, as someone informed him prior to myself reaching out to him. He was perfectly happy to get rid of them.

There are a few very long threads and multiple opinions on the topic. What you did seems totally legit to me, and I think most would agree. Not the type of frowned-upon "flipping" where you buy relatively cheap priced chips from a wholesale here on the forum with the sole purpose reselling at a higher price to the same people here. I'm inexperienced, but again, I think if you put the work in and take the risk and have the fortune of a good value, do what you want. If people don't wanna buy them, they don't have to...

Good luck to you (y)

Thank you for the input and knowledge! I am off to look for those other threads...

Nothing wrong at all with what you're doing here. Just ignore the thread crappers and the slut shaming. Some people here seem determined to go to battle against free markets and supply & demand. If you find a bargain on Craigslist from someone just trying to get rid of stuff, you have no obligation to pay it forward here. Many well respected members enjoy finding bargains elsewhere, then sell them here for a profit. It can be a fun hobby.

Oh, and just FYI (in case you want to maximize your profit on these)... Those pink chips are almost certainly worth more than $1 each. Pink, orange and yellow chips always sell at a premium (when listed as such). I'd be asking at least $150 for them. The last two racks of yellow starbursts I sold went for $200 and $175 on eBay (I also bought them on eBay for less than half of that).

Thanks for the advice RainmanTrail! Interesting that different colors draw a premium on these. I'll leave the prices as is, and if nobody wants them here, ill try eBay.

I'm a very vocal critic of flippers when they do it as Dr. Matt indicated above. No worries bringing chips into the community from the outside and making some money. For pricing, you have them about right. Mint starburst with perfect stamps usually go for between $1 and $1.50 a chip. As you say, one rack are overstamps and the chips are in good condition.

As others have said, taking advantage of community wholesale opportunities or generous members and flipping them is generally met with hostility by most. Some people will still criticize making a profit off of good finds, but I think it's fair game as an open market, and once the addiction sets in all of your profit will be spent on other members' chips anyway haha. We've all gotten flamed for doing something wrong in the eyes of some, have a thick skin and keep on chipping!

Have a thick skin

Agree with all.

My best advice is this: Do your best to engage with the community & add to it vs. simply profit from it. If you find a good deal out in Craigslist or eBay or whatnot and want to bring those chips into the chipping community and make a few bucks, then that's great! You've at least added to the community by bringing chips to it that weren't there before, and that's a good thing.

Do what you like. There are some folks here who will shame you for trying to make a penny off a poker chip. They think this is some kind of a secret internet society with a blood oath. You owe nothing to a bunch of folks you have never even met. If you want to do something nice it is encouraged and appreciated by all, but should never be expected as some type of self entitlement.

You did all of the work finding a good deal, you should be rewarded for that. After all it was your time, and you could have spent it doing something else. You have no obligation to sell things under its market value just because you bought them at a steal.

This is entirely separate from what happened the past few weeks / months during the Cleveland Horseshoe poker chip sale. Lots of lurkers I noticed came out of the darkness to buy a crap ton of rare poker chips and then doubled or tripled the price .... selling them all over eBay within minutes of getting their hands on them. Lots of butt hurt here about that, and I honestly think that scenario is taking advantage of an invaluable vendor TheChipRoom who was offering a sick deal to collectors.

But at the end of the day no one has a gun to anyone's head here. No one has to buy anything at any price. Haggling is the heart of this hobby I have found. If you don't like a price PM someone and BE NICE. A little honey goes a long way. I can't tell you how many awesome people are here. I've had a couple folks just send me something I needed FOR FREE. Just because they love the hobby and enjoy other people who are into poker chips too!

Just send a friendly message about what you want and what you'd like to pay. People are very flexible and understanding.
