I'm surprised I didn't notice this with the Cleveland $1's, but I only owned those for a short time. I recently got a bunch of Jerry's Nugget THC lcv $1's. Playing with them, I thought they sounded different. Sure enough, when I pulled out some other, older, leaded THC lcv chips, the difference in sound was obvious. Not sure I have the vocabulary, but the leaded chips sound brighter. The newer unleaded chips sound flatter. I swear I'm not imagining this.

Now my fingers are trying to tell me the unleaded chips feel different too, but I can't believe I'm not imagining that.

Sounding brighter is probably higher frequency. Like hitting steal versus hitting plastic.

And your fingers are correct. Leaded chips are softer, and wear down differently than unleaded chips. More gentle edge rounding, less edge nicking/chipping. Definitely affects feel, even when new or nearly new.

You're not crazy.

I tried mixing some leaded and unleaded THC chips and decided against it, noticing the same thing about the sound and feel.

The unleaded chips seem more “rubbery” to me, though I am sure that is not the best descriptor for it.
