Some Antarctica photos. Going there we luckily arrived in Buenos Aires the day after their soccer team. The place was still a mess along the freeway but at least we could get through! These are just fine on my phone, of course we have a million more in cameras and go pros.
But a great trip, absolutely beautiful, we got lucky on the weather. We did a base camp thing where you made landfall twice a day and did two zodiac tours a day. 24 hr daylight makes it possible anytime!

I might be uppladdning some snow pron during the next week... :D

Amazing day today!! First hours were spent in Meribel, here's a pic from one of the peaks:

Then Val Thorens the rest of the day. The views in Val Thorens are truly incredible! The highest peak is 3200 meters. Here's a pic from there:

This gif is from around 2700. Val Thorens village to the right, Les Menuires further down the valley.

Today we skied in Courchevel. This is the valley I enjoy the most out of Les 3 Vallées. Here's a gif of the start of the men's downhill run for the 2023 alpine world ski championships. Sadly, but understandably, it is currenlty closed for the public.

Well deserved:

Another great day! Not 3 digits just yet, but getting there...

I walked by where the slalom and GS events will take place in the world championships in February.

Is anyone betting against Shiffrin? I'm certainly not! She'll take 2 golds...at least!

One thing I love about these trips is rounding off a day with a beer up in the mountains

Nice and relaxing! But then we just happened to ski past Folie Douce on our way down....

I prefer Austrian after-ski in general, but Folie Douce was pretty amazing! I wish I could say that the ski-run down to the valley afterwards was uneventful...

After Courchevel, you should visit Kurvelesh in Northern Epirus (in Greek terminology) or south Albania (in Muslim Albanian terminology)
Where the Greek Army defeated the Italian Fascist Army and bands of irregular Albanian Muslims.
Magical scenery and lots of monuments of hatred from both sides, to make your trip unforgettable :)

How's the skiing there?

Lots of clouds today...but they didn't reach us! ;-) Here you can see the village where we're staying, Meribel-Mottaret, just high enough to avoid the clouds. Meribel further down the valley wasn't as lucky.

Last day tomorrow!
Some of my favorite times at the observatory are when it's clear at the scopes but there is fog in the valley below. It gives an added sense of being "above it all".

Great pics!!

Off-topic: Man, I love your location. I had to google what a saguaro is.
Prior to that, I thought that saguaros were something blood-thirsty, like jaguaros :)

I'm on the plane now flying back from an amazing ski trip in Les 3 Vallées. I've said it before and I'll say it again: When given the choice, I'll pick a ski trip over a week at the beach every single time.

I'm already thinking of next year! I'm flying past Matterhorn as I'm writing this, so maybe Zermatt? :-)

A word of warning: Never ever get a ski tracker app, it'll make you do really stupid things. On a completely separate note, here's my record for the week:

On another completely separate note, I'll probably need surgery when I get home. I can't lift my thumb, I think a ligament is torn off or something. #worthit

Max speed up, average down. Interesting.

BOOYAH!

So it turns out the tendon to my thumb is torn off. It can't be sown together. My options according to the doctor are:

1. Transplant a certain tendon from my wrist that doesn't have a function. But not everyone had this tendon, and I'm one of them.

2. Transplant a tendon from behind the achilles. There is a risk that this will affect my active lifestyle, e.g. running, skiing etc.

3. Redirect a tendon from the index finger to the thumb. This will most likely mean that I won't be able to fully extend the index finger. It will most likely affect my job since I type a lot.

4. Do nothing. The thumb can still do a lot of its jobs, but I can't lift it upwards (e.g. when placing the palm on a table I can't lift it towards the ceiling).

1 is out since I don't have that tendon. I think 2 is out as well, it feels like having a sweet pot to win (the thumb), but I need to call a really large bet (skiing, running, etc). I need to decide quickly, as the muscle that pulls the tendant will die soon.

Thankfully, there's no stress with 3. It can be done at any time.

Right now I feel like going for 4 and evaluating. I can always choose 3 later.

Thoughts? Any PCF doctors that care to weigh in? :-)
