Yes, yes I know she’s out of my league. Don’t have to be so blunt. Also, don’t remind her about it
I only meant the wives are suffering 'cause the husbands play poker all the time.
Honestly, I think you are a lot more than a perfect match for your wife, physically.
Of course, don't tell her so, if you ever want to play some poker again... :)

Continuing to vacation close to home. Took a tour down Falu copper mine, which apparently is on the Unesco world heritage list. Was down there as a kid but didn’t remember much from then. A lot cooler than I first thought it would be.

Actual way down once upon a time, through a 220 meter (721ft) shaft (not the only way and in a bigger barrel, but still, fuck me).

The shaft from the top:

Then onto another mine, a silver one. This is flooded though and under approx 200 meters of water. A really out of place location. I earned a few cool dad points on the last one.

Home vacationing continues. I’m sure there are tons of great concert venues out there that I’m not familiar with but this (Dalhalla) is the coolest one I’ve ever been to. At the bottom of an old limestone quarry. Absolutely magic with amazing acoustics.

Only negative is I think capacity is like max 6,000 people so they can’t book any really big artists. Neil Young has played once, and Bon Iver was just there, but I managed to miss both. First aid kit was on stage yesterday. Do people know about them? If not, you should.

3 weeks ago, we were back from a 13 days roadtrip in Sicily.

Here're some pics of our first stop, Palermo :

Isola delle Femmine - the ruins on the small island are the remains of an old prison for women.

Piazza della Vergogna

This pic has been taken after the stairs of the Piazza della Vergogna. Piazza della Vergogna means Place of Shame. I don't know why this place is called like this but this pic illustrates my own personal interpretation.

After Palermo, we drove to Taormina, our second stop.
But before reaching Taormina, we stopped in Tindari to visit the ancient greek theater.

IMG_8453_DxO_Flickr.jpg

IMG_8463_DxO_Flickr.jpg

And then, in Taormina, we also visited the ancient greek theater over there which was bigger and offered a view on mount Etna.

IMG_8496_DxO_Flickr.jpg

IMG_8510_DxO_Flickr.jpg

In Taormina, we also went on the beach in front of Isola Bella.

GOPR0297_DxO.jpg

To reach the beach, we used the cable line which was much easier to reach the beach from the heights of Taormina. Here's the view from the terrace of our appartment.

IMG_8541_DxO.jpg

Taormina is a lovely place with very nice small and typical streets.

IMG_8527_DxO_Flickr.jpg

The place is also very nice and offers a beautiful view on the bay and the vulcano (Mount Etna).

IMG_8529_DxO.jpg

IMG_8537_DxO_Flickr.jpg

While in Taormina, we booked a tour to go on top of mount Etna and Al Qantarah gorges.

Taormina was the spot I enjoyed the most if I have to pick only one.

It's still sad to see ancient Greek lands (Panormos, Tavromenion etc) in the hands of the followers of the Wolf of Satan (the Pope) :):)

For the 3rd stage of the trip,we went from Taormina to Siracusa.
On the road, we stopped again in Etna but this time to have a hike on the "secondary" craters. The hike we selected was "Monti Sartorius".

IMG_8582_DxO_Flickr.jpg

IMG_8586_DxO_Flickr.jpg

In Siracusa, we stayed at Ortigia. This was the view from our appartment :

The second day, at break-fast at the CafèIna, the Cappuccino of my wife reminded us our previous hike on Mount Etna. :)

IMG_20230919_073936_DxO_Flickr.jpg

And we headed to Fontane Bianche, a very nice sand beach near Siracusa.

IMG_20230919_134339_DxO.jpg

And back in town, we spent a last evening in Ortigia, enjoying the sunset.

IMG_20230919_184717_DxO_Flickr.jpg

And on our way back to our room, we stopped at the Borgia Palace for a visit.

IMG_20230919_202040_DxO.jpg

Siracusa was a very pleasant stop with lots of things to see and enjoy.

For the 4th stage of our road-triip, we went from Syracusa to Agrigento. But before reaching Agrigento, we wanted to visit the Riserva Cavagrande. The road to access the site is very difficut. It's a small mountain and rocky road where 2 cars cannot cross. Arrived on the site, we were disappointed that the access to the small lake with waterfall was closed.

IMG_8614_DxO_Flickr.jpg

Then we did not stay there for a long time and headed to our room in Agrigento. The B&B was nicely decorated on the Greek theme and we also enjoy the presence of the pets there.

After Agrigento, we headed to our final stop, Trapani.
But before reaching Trapani, we stopped at Selinunte, where there is another archeological site. In this one, it was possible to get inside the temples.

In Trapani, our booking offers a view on Erice, an old town at the top of a moutain. We will head there the next day.

IMG_20230922_152116_DxO.jpg

Trapani itself was a very pleasant surprise. We did not expect to like this city that much.

IMG_8819_DxO.jpg

For our second day in Trapani, we went to Erice on the morning. Arrived there, it rained a little bit but after 30', the rain stopped. But a fog remained a little bit, offering a mysterious feel in this old town.

IMG_20230923_110540_DxO.jpg

But quickly, the fog dissipated and we could enjoy a great panoramo on the bay.

In some spots, it's better to not have the fear of heights.

Here're some other pics taken in Erice.

The Castle of Venus

In the afternoon, we headed to the Baia di San Cataldo, also known as the "cave of the doves". The path ito get there is very difficult and dangerous, with risk of fall few meters below into the rocks or the sea if you're not cautious or if you don't have good shoes. In the end, there is an evocative stairway overhanging the sea to reach the "cave of the doves".

Photo taken when we went back to the car and follow the same difficult path (yes, the narrow path goes between the tree and the rocky wall on the left)

We spent the evening in Trapani.

A typical Italian city scene featuring a Vespa in the streets of Trapani

For the 3 nights we spent in Trapani, we always eated at the same location, Hosteria Siciliana where we met a new friend. This black kitten stayed with us our 3 evening at this restaurant.

IMG_20230923_191457_DxO.jpg

For our last full day in Sicily, we spent the first half at San Vito Lo Capo beach. This day, the sea was not so calm but it was still a pleasant morning.

IMG_20230924_113413_DxO.jpg

And we spent the afternoon to another - small - archelological site : Segesta.

IMG_8905_DxO_Flickr.jpg

The "unfinished" tample of Segesta

We could also get inside the temple in this archeological site (in Agrigento it's not possible).

IMG_8900_DxO.jpg

IMG_8902_DxO.jpg

In Segesta's archeological park, there are 2 things to see : the temple and the other site where there is an ancient theater. If you're fit, you can go from one site to the other walking, else there are bus services. We went by foot.

IMG_20230924_162214_DxO.jpg

When we were at the theater, it started to rain a little bit (which was not a bad thing to be honest) which created a spectacular double rainbow.

IMG_8941_DxO_Flickr.jpg

This Summer, the site of Segesta has been hit by the fires and we could see all burnt trees.

IMG_20230924_172136_DxO.jpg

We again spent the evening in Trapani.

IMG_20230924_184931_DxO_Flickr.jpg

In total, we drive 1435 kms in 13 days. Globally we were very pleased with our trip. The only thing we did not like is the lack of respect of the inhabitants of Sicily for their own homeland, throwing so many waste everywhere. It's a real shame.
