Welcome to the Neighborhood!

IMG-1552.jpg

Background
I am beyond excited to publicly reveal how far down the rabbit hole I have fallen in two short years on this site. Like many of you here, I quickly fell in love with the idea of making a CPC custom set, and today I am thrilled to show off this set that I am so proud of. I wanted a theme that was meaningful to me and arrived at the idea of making a set based on the neighborhood that I grew up in and then, many years later, bought my first home with my wife.

I grew up in a wonderful little neighborhood called Story Hill. Not too far from downtown Milwaukee and a short walk down the hill to Miller Park (then County Stadium) where the Brewers play, the neighborhood is filled with charm. The neighborhood is known for its variety of houses that have so much character - many of which are Tudor style and feel like they could be in a storybook. The hand drawn font of Story Hill on the chips aims to mimic a storybook flair.

This set depicts a drawing of my childhood home on one side and a drawing of the first home my wife and I bought as newlyweds on the other side. I wanted the drawings to be cohesive in style, but uniquely capture the charm of each of the two houses.

The Set
I originally was thinking a traditional cash set. But my game tends to be very very small potatoes with friends and family. We would likely only use fracs and $1 chips and maybe crack into $5 chips if we were feeling wild. That obviously limits the functionality and usefulness of the higher denom chips. But a 3 chip set is boring! So I decided to make a 7 chip set that could be used for cash, a T5 base 2-table tourney, and a T25 base single table tourney. Obviously a cash game and a tourney would not be held on the same night, and I know the risks. I know there are strong opinions on this, but knowing how my games work and our usual stakes, I was comfortable with it and allowed me to make a larger set that we could use a variety of chips.

Breakdown (1,200 chips):
$0.25 x 200
$1 x 300
$5 x 200
$25 x 140
$100 x 160
$500 x 80
$1000 x 120

The Chips
There was one chip that I had my heart set on - a Marquette University themed $1. This would be our workhorse chip and I love the navy, baby blue, and yellow combination. The other thing I wanted to include was a classic hub shaped $5. I have collected several singles of different casino red $5 chips with the hub inlay. I think I achieved that classic hub red $5. The rest of the chips I played around with for over a year to find a set that in my opinion was cohesive and had good edge spot progression. Thanks to @Irish and @72o for being a sounding board throughout the process.

Samples?
I chose not to do a full blown sample set thread. Sorry in advance to those that may be interested. I ordered a few extras that I might find ways to give out in the future. But, you do currently have 4 ways that you can try to get a sample set if you'd like one.

1) I will be doing a sitewide free giveaway through Tommy - https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/story-hill-sample-set.64903/#post-1287558
2) I will be giving away a set in a Masters (golf) giveaway this week - https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/story-hill-giveaway-masters-edition.64913/#post-1287569
3) I will be doing a charity auction for a sample set - https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/story-hill-sample-set-charity-auction.65149/
4) I would trade a set for @72o 's Knollwoods sample set FOUND! and/or @RainmanTrail 's Lucky Buddha sample set FOUND!

The pr0n!
Now what you've really wanted to see! Sorry to keep you waiting. Without further ado - Welcome to Story Hill!
(Note: for the individual chip stacks, the stack on the left is chalky from the factory and the stack on the right has been oiled so people can see the difference in color)

Absolutely amazing!! Funny that your chips are on the same mold as @madforpancakes and that sample is exactly what it took to pry away a set of Ranier Rooms! Lol

Wish I had another man! These are sick!! My favorite CPC mold too! Once these beauties break in you will have an amazing set for many years to come! Congratulations on perfection!! Also love those shaped Inlays!! I know its expensive but when you are talking about your forever set why not spend the extra cash!!

Fellow Chipper Ben

Very, very beautiful set!:hearts: Congratulations!:):)

Bear in mind you could use the denoms, in cash mode, as dimes, in one tenth of the value, if your games are micro.

Instantly one of my favorite sets ever.
I'm not just talking CPC either. Mind blown.

Logo, font, color matching, spot progression is all awesome.
Besides irish and 72o helping out, who did the design work?
Wow! Thank you so much for the very kind words! I appreciate those comments because I tried to put a lot of thought into those exact elements. So I really appreciate it.

I taught myself illustrator and stumbled my way through it to make the inlay myself. Lots and lots of iterations but very happy with where it ended up!

That set is fantastic! The inlay is elegantly simple.
Thank you! I should have put in the original post that I wanted a fairly clean white, more traditional inlay. Elegantly simply is exactly what I was going for so I really appreciate this comment!

There they are, even sexier seeing them all stacked up. Awesome set all around, congrats again my friend!

If I ever consider another custom tourney set one day, it will be very difficult not totally stealing that $500 chip. And when I do, I'll be like:

so great, square in circle is my favorite CPC mold, well that and small crown but I will always think of that mold as TRK

Very nice set. I’m digging it so much I’m going to go look if I have an extra of the samples you’re looking for. Doubtful but worth a look.

Nice set!! I am not a big fan of cpc, but when i see this, i realize it can change. Love the cashgame setup

Grand slam set from top to bottom!!!!

I love the shaped inlays and the inlay itself is perfectly executed.

The year to design was time well spent. I love that you didn’t rush anything just to have it. Doing something right means taking time. Congratulations on an epic set.
