For those of us designing our first set, I would like to hear some of the regrets you may have had with custom sets after the fact. Whether that be color selection, spots, quantities or just anything that you would have done different.

Should have made the orange chips the nickels and the blue chips the quarters in my solid dayglow set pictured below. In low light, the DG Tiger and DG Pink chips are just a bit too close together. There would be more contrast and color distinction if I switched these two denoms.

The best piece of advice I can give when it comes to customs is take your time. Tinker in the chip design tool. Only submit your order when you're 100% happy with what you're ordering. Don't compromise or rush through your order so you're not posting in this thread five years from now!

After getting a shuffle stack of the CSQ recently (just had the mold sample set when deciding) I kinda, sorta am wishing I had done mine on that mold. Love the scrown look but gotta admit feel is better on the CSQs. Oh well, could always do another set, right?

If going CPC buy more than you think you’ll need, or at least all of a certain denom you might ever need as reorders will likely vary a bit in clay color. Other than that I have no regrets, but would probably change some things today simply because more options have become available.

I wish I had waited after taking part in the original ASM group buy (first non 312 offerings). Almost immediately when that was done they opened up all the colors and patterns.

Is there anyone who decided to skip out on a frac and regret it later? I play .50/1 but could just make it 1/1 and skip the frac. But I like more chips on the table and the variety.

I feel like that would likely not be a (long-term) regret, as adding an entirely new denom doesn't have as much potential risk as not buying enough of a denom and adding more of the same later, since there could be color differences in production runs, etc.

So while I'm sure some people might wish they added fracs, others probably just added them later and thus no regrets. :ROFLMAO:

My first two sets were not executed well from a theme perspective:

- first used the HHR mold which had no place/relationship to me or my home game.

- second was an old school underground club theme on a modern mold (BCC flame). It should have been on an ASM smooth mold, or something else old school.

I'll also echo what @beyondtilt said about higher denominations. My earlier sets had racks of higher denominations and maybe 10 of them saw the felt once or twice.

@beyondtilt, when you said your regret was "bigger denominations", did you mean the denomination amount (e.g., "I never put the $500s into play") or the size of the denomination typeface ("I can hardly read the amount on the chip, I should've made it larger")?

If I did it over again, I would have gone larger font on the denomination and smaller/less details on the logo and graphics.

Probably would have gone shaped inlays too.

I'm still on the fence about the Cali colors vs traditional colors with red 5s.

Well, having only seen them on PCF and never played with them, your 360 customs look very well done!

Curious, why are you still on the fence about having gone with Cali colors vs traditional, esp re the $5? Just your preference, or do your players get confused?

I appreciate the compliment! I mulled over a custom set for over a year and overall I'm very happy but it does show that you can still want adjustments after it's done.

For the colors, I love all variations and I don't have a problem with even nonstandard colors, but my main purpose of having the chips is getting them into play. Being in Texas, players are more familar with standard colors so for the sake of games where there are new players the standard colors work better. I had a game or two where someone accidentally threw out white chips as 1s instead of 100s so a $22 raise intention became $230. With the regular crew it's not a problem since we play together more often and they get used to it. If the 100s are oversized and white (like the Crystal Park chips) it's not an issue, more so with 39 mm white chips. It's the main reason I went with a primary tiger set vs secondary. I did order some secondary 100s which ar charcoal just in case. Any excuse for more chips right? I should also note, our games do involve a good amount of bourbon, wine and beer :)

Picture of my 360 lineup below as reference. I think I would have mainly shrunk the ATX and 360 Poker logo to allow for larger font on the denoms and would have allowed for shaped inlays as well. The 100 and 500 wouldn't need as large of a font increase as I think they are close to being the the right font size. I would have increased the font sizes on the 0.25, 1, 5 more dramatically and slightly less of an increase on the 25. Growing old sucks and some of my players also have trouble with reading standard size index community cards lol

Also forgot to say, the intent of my CPC set was to be usable in all my games in the unlikely event that I sell every other poker chip I have. Custom sets are a labor of love that should have a connection to you as a long term keeper set. Any attempt to try and sell them afterwards would likely result in a heavy loss.

Font color for the denom was a tad too dark. I've been told it was borderline when I could still change it, but pre-production test print seemed okay to me in isolation and I really wanted to take exactly the respective chip color as closely matched as possible for each chip. Purple is a problematic color in that regard - easily misjuged.

From reading forum posts, got myself convinced that a $20 is better than a $25 in home games so much that I completely disregarded my personal preference for standard casino denominations.
Well, they're not useless to me as I have enough $1s accompanying these to nicely play fixed limit games where they absolutely make sense. But I had some $25s made later to replace these in any other kind of game because the non-standard $20 simply bothered me. That however gave me the opportunity to significantly spice up the looks.

I’ve been working on a new set that I was planning on using small crown for because it does fit nicely as an old school mold but I don’t love the feel of it. 99% switching to CSQ with a 1” inlay.

Using retro blue with a canary base. Made the yellow look dirty. I should have gone with DG peacock to brighten the chip instead.

Then with my Buzzard Roost set, I didn’t think about using shaped inlays for the $25 & $100 until it was too late to be changed. For the small cost increase it would have been well worth it. I kinda made up for it by using a shaped inlay for the $500 add-on.

Tourney set was first (H-Mold), then my cash set. I wish I had the cash set label on the Tourneys also. I focused too much “spot progression” of the first set and should have spent more time on the label.

Probably a good idea. It’s not like I dislike the scrowns and regret the set but I felt a little sting in the heart when I got to feel how the CSQs shuffle.

But damn don't they look pretty in the case ; )

These look pretty great to me. I find the 212 25 a little odd (the rest of the seet is X14, well save the big chip,).

That inlay kills though. Simple and clean. Normally I hate differing front and backs but you did the right thing having the denom on both so you win. All the chips look good and the set works as a whole.
