What's this craigslist table worth? (1 Viewer)

Velvet sucks, but you could upgrade to nylon or SSC plus a tray for around $50-$60 shipped. Removable rail is no problem; I actually prefer them (and makes surface replacement pretty easy).

Puts it over $400, which is about what it would cost to build from scratch.... except you get (mostly) free labor in this case. If the workmanship and quality are good, it's not a bad deal. Not a basement bargain, but decent value for the $$ spent.

Offer $300 and see where it goes.

Thanks as always. In your mind is the velvet unplayable? I'd like to not have to resurface it immediately, if only out of laziness. Lol.

It's pretty bad imo. Velveteen is better, and it actually may be that instead. Both have a nap, so cards will only slide well in certain directions (making self-dealt games a major pita), and it always looks like crap unless you just brushed it and took a picture.

Probably will just save my pennies for a chan table or gorilla table then.

ps. check your Inbox. Also, there should be a tip option here for all your efforts. (y)

I think $250 is the most I'd offer, and I think better deals can be found. Remember, he doesn't even have the chip tray, so that's $20-30 you have to factor in (after having one shipped to you). The velvet is crap, as BG already stated.

Tables are functional, beautiful, or both. I think this table may look good (not especially beautiful), but has some functionality issues. Dealer cutouts are cool, but suck unless you have a dedicated dealer all the time. Playing with a dealer tray and little/no rail in front of you is not pleasurable. That and the play surface issues would probably have me continuing the search...

As an example, There is a guy in the Chicagoland area who builds new tables with SSC and full felts for around $400-500 new, and his work is good. I think @Jeff has used him and I've played these tables (they're nice). I say this to give you an idea of what a decent table can run. In looking at the pics in the CL you linked, I don't find the quality to be outstanding, but without closer pics, it's hard to judge. The mere fact the seller has a tray of dice chips he'd let go for $200 goes to show the table might be overvalued as well....

$200 for the chips sounds like a good deal......

In the not so distant past I may have thought so, there is a large quantity. Alas, I have fallen down this rabbit hole.

Really good information. Thanks! Now if I could find someone in the Buffalo, NY area doing that... (n)

Dice chips tell you everything you want to know. Her husband doesn't know his craft very well.

Velvet sucks

I prefer ultrasoft velveteen to SSC. Softer, easier on the cards, still slides well.

She calls it velvet, but the shine on it tells me its USV. Take cards with yo and see how they slide...

Offer $300 and see where it goes.

I'd start at $250...she wants it gone. And the chip tray would drive me nutso, unless your group uses a dedicated dealer. But agreed, $300 is a good price if the craftsmanship is decent. $500 is retail prices...and high at that. No need to make his $600 mistake your $600 mistake.

anyone else think that dealer tray spot looks insanely small?

I don't think it looks terribly small, but I think a good question is if the OP wants to deal with a dealer tray on the table. Sometimes I think they are a PITA in self dealt home games.

Ok thanks for the input! I'd have to try it for sure. I've never used SCC so perhaps ignorance would be bliss too.

13..5" x 8.25" I think she measured it out as.

As far as the tray goes, I'd fill the hole in if I ever resurfaced it, that spot would just have a narrow rail. They will be self-delt games, unless I was out and felt like dealing instead of playing cash at a second table.

Thanks everyone

looks well done, id offer 300 and be willing to max out around 400. dont even need to replace the felt in the short term, but long term can cover the felt with SSC or some other material.

Lol...

the rail looks to be upholstered "ok". But a more professional job would not have left the wrinkled edges exposed on the bottom. And seriously LOL at her placement of the rail cutout opposite of the tray.. ha ha.

I wouldn't pay more than $300, but that's just me, since I find the dealer cutout and tray issues to be undesirable. However, if you were looking for a table WITH these features, I might go $350. I think $400-500 is retail, and the missing tray, and the fact it's used does matter. Age and exposure to elements does deteriorate foams and fabrics. Sitting in a garage for 6-7 years isn't what I'd call "like new..."

She put the rail on backwards.

If you're going to put a different cloth on, you can patch the dealer tray hole.
