I can't believe it, but for the third time in 3 months, I have another in person poker event. I thought it would be pretty cool to let my players pick which chips that they wanted to use. 2 months ago, there was no question. It was my custom CPCs. Last month, it was my mixed THC set that is actually very Outpost-heavy (with a little circus circus mixed in). I would almost dare to call it an Outpost set, but nobody has sold me any $1s.

So I think it's time to introduce them to the RHC mold. I have many options, but I figured that my two oldest sets should get considered first. So I narrowed it down to my very first set that I ever completed, which was my mixed RHCs. As well as my first ever full casino set, which was Santa Ysabel.

I sent out an email with pictures, and rich history, and even a poll that I created. And none of them voted. At first, I was sad. But then I realized I have all of you. So I'm not going to let the pictures go to waste. Which would you rather play with?

Santa Ysabel

I guess one thing to mention is that there's less talking points when playing with the SY chips. You see, when my players are here, they are essentially a captive audience. And they have to listen to my droning on and on about chips.

With the SYs, I can only discuss:
  • How the lack of a fractional chip required me to murder a JACK Cincinnati
  • How the SY casino was also supposed to include a resort, but they went bankrupt before they could open it
  • How there are lack of $100 chips
  • How these chips were sold to a dealer training company and used in a dealer school.
I mean, those points will only last about an hour and a half. I need enough content to bore the hell out of them for at least 4 hours. With the mixed RHC set, I can go into detail about each and every chip and casino. That's like five times the content.

Just sayin'

SY only because playing with $.25, $.50, $1s and $2s would tilt the shit out of me. I'd pull the Paris out of that lineup or relabel them as $20s or $100s (and I love them, I have 1500 of them in my limit set) and just use the quarters...

Edit: just realized there's $2s in the SY set as well, oof. I assume you play $.25/.50?

Is the SY 25c a home brew chip?

I know, I know; each denom should be 4-5x the previous. Blah blah ... I like chips, MOAR is better! But, I'm not saying I'm going to use each denom there. I can choose to only have certain ones in play. But let's not fill ourselves here; I'm a chip whore and I would probably play a $2 AND a $2.50 at the same time.

Yeah, we play 25/50c for most of the night. One answer some point is that the mixed RHC set does not have a $25 chip. My other RHC sets do, but I guess I never picked one up for this one. I just have a buttload of $5s.

Is the SY 25c a home brew chip?
Yes it is! Both 25c chips in these sets are home brews. The SY 25c was previously a JACK Cincinnati $25, and the JACK 25c was previously a different JACK $25.

For RHCs, my only real fracs are in the HSI set.

I voted for the mix set after I read your second post. Usually everyone I play with gets annoyed after a while when I keep talking about chips. But if you have a captive audience, go for it!

I'd mix them together and go
0.25 - Jacks
$1 - SY
$2 - Paris
$5 - SY
:wow: ... ... Nope first emoji was right... :wow:

Although I can see taking an SY $1 chip or $2 chip and turning it into something else, if I have a complete SY set, it seems almost criminal not to use it in its entirety.

Every time that I see that SY $25 I wish that CPC had a legit tri-moon and not that half circle thing.
It's my only tri-moon ... I actually thought that the half circles and the tri-moons were the same when I started building my sets. In fact, that's one of the reasons I chose the JACK Cincinnati $25 chip to be the frac originally. I thought it would be cool if both the lowest and highest denominations had similar spots. But of course, it has the half circles, which in retrospect also works.

We play with a few fun bonus chips like a "Show 'em" and a "Fuck Off" chip. I can't tell you how many times I've had the latter thrown at me because I won't shut up about the chips. Just wait until I get into some of my vintage molds or the C&J set. They're going to wish they were back in high school trigonometry.

Ohh and I voted SY... I love that watermelon quarter like everyone else.. but the SY $1 is just a fantastic chip, the $2 is in a league of its own!

Tough choices but I have decided I am going to relabel our $2s as quarters, the pinks just have too many spots for a frac! I have a rack of 614 Kash $100s to relabel as hundos eventually as well.

So my choice may be bias brother! Lol

Once you slice into that $2, there's no going back! This is actually the quandary with the Santa Ysabels. As a complete set, I feel it's one of the best RHC options out there. Everything from the artwork to the colors to the name is just pure chipping bliss.

... But each individual denomination is so unique, that it also makes for an amazing murder/relabel. I've seen the $1s and $2s as fracs (and I even think I saw the $2 chip turned into a $1 chip).

The people have spoken - Santa Ysabel (which I just learned was pronounced Isabelle thanks to a friend who likes to point out how uncultured I am) it is!

The issue now is that for the 4th game, I'm going to have to include the HSI set and possibly the oversized RHC and the House Mold live sets in the poll ... Mixed RHC might get boxed out ...

take the Santa Ysabel
Yup!!! It crushed the mixed set. Which is kind of sad because the mixed set is the thing that started to get me into Paulson's and I have yet to use it. I realized that not having a $20/$25 chip in that set also hurts it. Apparently, my players are closet chippers, and quietly admitted to me that part of the reason they didn't like it either is because it doesn't have anything higher than a $5.

So, I've gone on the mission to make my own. I have some brand new minty Horseshoes Cincy purple $500s that I'm going to turn into a $20.

But no regrets about the Santa Ysabels! They were really fun to play with. RHC haters can eat it; they're all wrong.
