I've been looking at poker tables a ton the last couple weeks. All shapes and all sizes to see what I like and don't like. I know I will eventually go with a 60" Circular or Octagon type of table since we don't have a fixed dealer and to me it just makes more sense for the way we play. Anyways, the reason I made this post is because I'm seeing all these tables for sale at ridiculous prices online. My question is.... WHO is buying these tables??? There's tons of them out there in the $4,000- $6,000 range and imo they are not really that nice. But there's tons of them out there and they are all expensive for what you are getting. So who's buying these things?? I would prefer most of the tables you guys are building over what I am seeing online. Picture is just an example... not something I'm interested in. I'm honestly considering a Triton for $1500 as we usually play 3 table tournaments and end up bringing in a table and it would fit my needs and it would always be something I would use as a secondary table if down the road I end up with a nicer permanent table. Thoughts??

I don't mind the look, in a matching man cave, but it doesn't look much more than barely functional. For that price, you could get something that was worlds better in form and function.

I've never owned a Triton, but they appear to be a much better deal. Screw those Pool Tables Plus guys.

I suspect the market for these expensive but not very good tables is newly rich guys who have hired a decorator for their new McMansion, which of course has to have a “game room.”

Said game room has to have a dartboard, a pool table, a poker table, a small bar, and some leather chairs facing a 55” Vizio TV. These get used for a few hours per year around Thanksgiving and the holidays.

The pool table will be undersized, and may or may not have a ping pong topper on it 90% of the time.

Almost no one will ever play poker in this room, but the decorator is happy to oblige, and the price is barely noticed by the client.

Anybody in the 4K+ budget should ne getting a full custom Chanman. Full stop.
Or a Jarque on the European Continent.
If no budget, still Chanman. Who cares about trans-ocean shipping and Customs costs.

Europeans getting Jarque (provided they can at least understand written French) should opt for the non-professional felt, which is nicely slippery.
The professional felt is meant to last 10 years in a casino and is annoyingly less slippery.

I have definitely seen Chanman's works...actually just got done looking thru his Pinterest page. And yes bsdunbar1 is only a 2hr drive from me. Both are at the top of my list if/when the time comes!!

Jarque from France.
First time they ever installed cupholders on the rail - without them protruding under the table.
7K + 2K for shipping. No Customs fees. (2.5K for the aluminium Marengo legs, alone; wife couldn't live without them - this is our main dining table).
Thank God my aunt is still alive and paid for it. :)

To be clear, I recently replaced my home-built table with a $2,900 Gorilla Illuminati.

But I consider that money well-spent because (a) it’s a really nice table which suits my needs/style exactly, and (b) I’m going to use it 20-30 times per year for at least 10 years for a decently high stakes game.

Cost of ownership works out to less than $12/game, if I only use it that long and it has zero resale value at the end.

My issue is with those who buy expensive but not terribly well-made tables which they almost never use.

You asked who buys these tables. I replied "me. I love it too..." Although you weren't really specific when you said "these." Mine is an Alpha Elite by BBO
I gotcha. My apologies I wasn't clear. I meant these way overpriced cheaply made tables. I wouldn't consider your table to be in the category i was talking about. I have no problem paying over $4k+ for a nice table and most likely will myself some day. I think Taghkanic nailed it...people with too much money who want a "game room" that they will most likely never hardly use.

Yes, you are getting my exact thought I was posting about. The overabundance of cheaply made but ridiculously overpriced tables that saturate the market.

It also works in the "build it and they will come" mode.
I never had so much interest in my game before I got this table.
Now all friends, and poker buddies / acquaintances just wanna play on my table.
They are happy to BYOB and the winners pay for their food (I still buy the losers' food)

Exactly! Most people don't have our obsessive compulsive disorder...but we will get them there!! LMAO :-)

Found one that looks interesting and affordable. Not the round or Octagon I was thinking but it has me interested. Anyone know anything on these??

That's one I'm leaning towards to, don't care for the way the dining topper isn't a real one and it's still a poker table, but it's not my main kitchen table (it'll be in a drinking/entertainment room that used to be my ex-wife's dining room. Been looking on here for anyone else who has one and has a real review. It's a barrington, which their folders seem to be well liked, so I'm thinking it'd be alright for my purposes.
