Why are poker chips so addicting? (3 Viewers)

I figured a post something other than just hello in the welcome thread.

So I fell into this rabbit hole of poker chips a few months ago when my kids started asking to play cards and bought a box of 100 dice chips. Of course our games started getting more interesting pretty quickly and we started getting friends and family involved in friendly games. 100 chips weren't enough.

When I went online to see what I could buy, I came across all the hundreds of cheap variants. The options were dizzying. Curious to see what made for a better chip, I searched reviews. Up comes a video of none other than... John Hobby.

Yea, the rest has been tea parties with mad hatters. When I got a sample set of Paulson Monaco's in my hands, the look and feel were so satisfying. They left everything else in the dust. I know these aren't even close to all the old Paulsons that are no longer available. With receipt of a sample set of the newly released Jack Detroit's, I'm now hooked. Of course the Queen of Hearts (my wife) is going to shout her signature, "Off with his head!" when she realizes how much these chips cost.

Somebody help me...

I think some of it is tactile/feel. Sound of the chips is also quite satisfying. The variations in colour and edgespots is endless. There is a lot of history with a lot of the casinos. People like to collect things. A lot of people love to play poker and gamble socially.
