Woman wins progressive blackjack jackpot, MGM Detroit refuses to pay (1 Viewer)

So after an altercation with her cousin in 2015 inside the casino, she was escorted out...but then she is considered "trespassing" when she wins the Jackpot, 9 years later?
If she was banned and wasn't formally notified that she would be charged with trespass, and for 9 years they allowed her to enter and play, I can't imagine the casino has a defense.
The casino's thinking that "She can play here as long as she loses" isn't going to stand up.

I’d like you to be correct… But if I had to bet, I’d bet on the house prevailing.

A. They have more clout.

B. The casino may argue that they had no idea she was in their establishment until she presented ID for the jackpot, causing them to look her up.

Then she would have to prove that the casino knew who she was during the years after the ejection when she continued playing there (and losing). Maybe if they credited her player’s card with comps, or issued her a new player’s card after the 2015 incident?

Her best bet may be to keep this in the public eye. At some point MGM might decide the bad publicity isn’t worth $127K. Of people think they are going to weasel out of paying big scores, their promotions and jackpots become worthless to people, if they know about this.

In many european countries, you have to present ID when visiting a casino. UK (someone checks ID, someone does not) and Gibraltar are the main exceptions I have encountered (I have visited casinos all across Europe, from Lisbon to Tbilisi)

So, if you are minor of age, banned, persona non grata or whatever, you simply don't have access

*$20k. You know she's gonna lose the bulk of that back in the first month.

Actually, this probably left a bad taste in her mouth and she'll play at the other two Detroit casinos.
"Yeah, I realized that casino didn't have my best interest at heart! Took my business to another one, they seem to really care about me."

If you are trying to speak in the voice of the aggrieved woman, please ass a few "m*thefuckers" to this quote... I think she is related to Samuel L. Jackson...

The question may also be, did she know she was banned? I mean, if they just escorted her out and said nothing, how would she know she was not permitted to gamble there if they allow her to enter and permit her to play?
Conversely, she may have known and played there anyway. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
I do agree with you that if this story gains traction, they may choose to pay it to make themselves look better and to make it go away.

Or they make her a lowball offer to shut up.

I'm putting my money on no settlement, no payout, nothing. If this is properly recorded with her being trespassed, too bad for her.

Highly doubtful any sort of "bad PR" related to this is going to stop people from attending the MGM brand at all.

Typically you have to present your passport, not just any id.

Please keep this sort of story in mind if you play on the MGM sports book. The simple bets are likely parimutuel in nature and almost certain to be paid out. The prop bets are likely not to be part of a paired trade, the expected value of the wager is good and finding an off-setting player unlikely. There have been stories about huge odds prop bets being dishonored. The bookmaker claims they made a mistake in setting the price, thus allowing the bet to be voided.

The players were already taking the worst of it by far. And then when luck broke their way, the sports book backed out of the deal

It isn't as though people aren't on notice. Be mindful about the limited regulations for on-line sports books. -=-DrStrange
