I was bored and decided to calculate the average big blinds in play when each of the last 10 WSOP Main Event Tournaments ended. Here's what I came up with...

Average Big Blinds in Play at the End of the Tournament - 132
Median Big Blinds in Play at the End of the Tournament - 131

Highest Number of Big Blinds in play at the End of the Tournament in last 10 years - 193
Lowest Number of Big Blinds in play at the End of the Tournament in last 10 years - 86

Has anyone ever tracked how many BB left at the end of their home tournament? If so, what were the results? It would be helpful to also know how many BB the loser had on the last hand.

I wish I'd been logging these details for my tournaments since I started hosting, but I hadn't. I'll certainly be logging this info from now on...

That does sound like a good idea. I'm going to try as well, though I'm not sure how easy it will be to track how much the loser had going into the last hand..

Very easy. Total chips in play should already be on record. Simple math gets both stack sizes if either one is known (or even if just knowing how much the leader had back after both were all-in).

Great info to share Andrew!! Thank you! In my tourneys, average BB at the end is way, way lower than that. I like the average BB at the end of the tourney as opposed to total BB though as sometimes (although not frequently) the tourney ends before the heads-up phase.

We know the total count and the round, which tells us the blind. Usually on an all in, it is clear who is ahead and no count is done. But now that it's come up, I'll make an effort to preserve the losers stack and count it later.
