Not Mine WTF is going on with Starburst prices? (1 Viewer)

Given that the majority of this set is white, the asking price does seem steep. But given that it is claimed to be totally unused—and the pics suggest that is true—plus some racks and a nice case are thrown in, I could see asking maybe $1,000-$1,200 for this set. I can’t tell if those are regular Red or some other shade, but I believe sets like this usually featured plain ol’ Red.

The rack of Fuchsias (?) looks pretty sweet at first, but then I notice they are overprints, which reduces their value somewhat IMHO. Looks like an overprint over maybe a dolphin hot stamp, which I’ve seen before on other chips... Anyone know anything about that?

I’d love a rack of those purples. Such a great colour

FWIW, in my Starburst liquidation sales this month, I sold 998 chips for a total of 984 dollars. I would guesstimate that shipping accounted for about $125 of the revenue... Doing my part to suppress the market and bring prices back closer to $1/each!

I have a near rack (96) of mint to near mint LCV starbursts...not sure the color nor fair price is. I was using them as fracs for my PCA primary cash set... all of which, along with weighted day glow FDL blanks set will be in the market place within a couple of days. But any help with the Starbursts is appreciated

Kinda looks like "Peach" colour. Some are overstamps. Might get a bit more considering they are a rarer colour. Maybe $90-100 shipped?

Thanks for the info. The color in the photos is a bit bland, more orange than peach...I bought them so long ago I forgot the color

Those look pretty prime, except for the lighter greens (Indian Blues?) which are overprints... Still, appears to be about $2.15/chip.

Here’s an interesting one... If I get value out of this purchase I’ll be amazed, but it seemed worth taking a flyer at a price of less than $1 per chip:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/292784848653

Notes:

1) These are not “blurples” based on the picture. But no matter.

2) From the pics, it looks like there are at least two and maybe three different colors here (Purple? Grape? Maroon? I guess I’ll find out.)

3) Condition also appears to be all over the map, from fairly rounded to pretty mint.

4) I have a batch of purples which is a little short of a rack, so if I get 20-30 more out of this sale, it won’t be a total waste.

I post to this older thread mainly because my instant purchase was driven in part by the inflation in THC Starburst solid prices. I acted on this as soon as the eBay alert came through, with only a cursory read and look at the seller’s history, because at less than $1 per chip, I felt I couldn’t go too far wrong. It says something about the current market.

Desperate times, desperate measures...

Yah... I saw those too... but definitely not blurple. Good luck!

Most look to be probably Purple, Lilac, Lavender or Orchid shades. (I bought a Paulson sample set a year ago). Grape and Maroon are really dark, maybe 2 chips on the bottom of the photo of the chips in stacks are the dark shades.

BTW, I have some used purple THC hotstamp chips (not starburst). that are a little short of a full rack as well. (Don't remember exactly, but might need 4 to 10 chips to fill a rack?) I think they're Lilac, which is one of the lighter purple colors, but still much darker than Hawaii Flower. So if this batch has any of those that you don't need, I may be interested to buy those from you.

Once they arrive and I have a chance to clean and oil these, I’ll sort them out, and post pics with possible matches with my sample sets.

Definitely not Blurple. Purple likely with Lavender and Lilac mixed in, just like @AWenger said.

It makes me wonder where the seller picked up the term “Blurple” to begin with. From the way the listing is worded, and looking at their other sales, this does not appear to be a chipper.

My guess is they did a quick google search and picked that name fairly randomly... unless civilians use this word who are not Paulson nomenclature junkies.

Which reminds me, we need a word for non-chippers. Kind of like Alaskans refer to people from the Lower 48 as “outsiders” (and traveling there as “going outside”).
