WTF - rough year (1 Viewer)

Always nice to see the windswept bassett. Welcome back!

Hey all.

Rough couple of years.

Hoping I can start to collect again.

Welcome back! I hope things are on the upturn.

I think you have a pm from me. I need your addy for nickel chips, if you still have the cats

Welcome back - I'm new to the hobby. The thing I like about it is it's entirely self-paced and directed with no barriers to entry. If you want to collect a couple of $1 chips from casinos then that's fine. If you want to focus on just Vegas casinos, that's fine. If you want to hoard Paulsons like a prepper then that's fine too. This hobby is not like a sports car collectors group where you have to drop several large just to get the most beat up piece of work required to say you're in it.

Speaking for myself, it's also somewhat unlike other hobbies like coin collecting where cleaning or otherwise touching the objects is forbidden. Here a lot of people actually play with their collections rather than keep them locked up in nitrogen filled pouches. And part of the hobby can be creating your own - how many coin collectors do you know of who mint their own silver dollars?

If you haven't bumped into them yet, the nitrogen pouch crew can be found here: http://www.thechipboard.com/

There's a little bit of crossover, and they can be pretty helpful for identification and knowledge of super rare chips.

I did visit that forum a while ago when I was getting started but it looked so 1995 Usenet that I didn't stick around long. Good to know that it's an active site and what they tend to specialize in.

Sounds like you are a well respected member from another life. Maybe our paths will cross in the future.

Good to see you found your way back here...collecting casino grade poker chips makes most things better.

Welcome to PCF!

Welcome back! It truly is the rough years that make the good ones great.
