WTHC cream of the crop? (3 Viewers)

Looking on eBay, it seems that the World Top Hat and Cane sets sell for way more than any other set out there? Is there a reason why? Are they rare or just the look of the chips are the most sought after? From what I’ve seen, WTHC, then Pharaoh, maybe the isthmus de casino/james bond set than everything else. Just curious to see if there is a pecking order as what is sought after.

They were sold publicly so people still remember them. Also, they were sold as sets so it is easier to get a set put together (or add on to one) for the general public that may not be on PCF or have never heard of it. If there is a pecking order, the pharaohs are at the bottom…Lol.

Welcome to PCF. Just know the members on here are much more sophisticated/knowledgeable than the average eBay buyer about chips and fair pricing. They will also have no problem telling you you are crazy if you do something crazy

Nice mold, available in quantiles/denoms, real shaped compressed inlays, 10g Paulsons.... make them sought after by many ..

If you are trying to determine what someone is willing to, or has paid I would suggest looking at past classified ads; condition is everything when it comes to value.
The forum search function works very well, there may not be a lot of recent sales of WTHC or Pharaohs but may give you a good idea of what has or has not sold. Not likely you will find any folks on this forum paying eBay prices.

Yes, and that is a good way of going forward. I was just trying to say - I'd you put out a classifieds ad with a crazy price, it is against the rules of the forum for people to tell you that in your ad, as it is considered thread crapping.

It's not a bad mold, I just don't like the way it looks - like a THC imposter, or THC lite. I've tested stacks and this mold was the slipperiest out of the THCs and RHC's that I tested. But overall, they're not slippery chips.
So if you like the looks of them, they can be your cream of the crop. But I'd be surprised if they won a poll.

Did you do a review thread? Would like to see a link of your research. I have never found my WTHC's to be slippery and they shuffle very well. I personally put the suits mold ahead of RHC, but to each their own.

Wthc is a grail set for most from what I’ve seen in reviews and posts. Not for everyone. You’ll have folks stating leaded THCs are the best but I personally love the mold and inlays and colors on wthcs. I admit the 5k looks the worst in the lineup with the color and spots but it does have its moments.

The $5s and $1s (especially the latter) are what make this set. The other denoms are meh at best.

I was calling WTHC that based on the price comps I’ve seen compared to other fantasy home sets out there. That set seems to command more than any other fantasy set. I understand at the end of the day, it all comes down to preference.

Same. I think the look and spot progression, including the repeat are perfect. But they just don’t feel like other Paulsons somehow they’re more “plasticky”. Don’t get me wrong I would love a set, but they are not GOAT level.

Plasticky is best description

It’s weird bc I’ve owned the grand card room solid set on the pips mold and they felt a little more like paulsons than the wthc.

I will say that noirs on that paradise mold feel amazing. Those noirs (the ones I had were slightly used) felt better than some RHC and THCs.
