Vendor Sale 1800’s Old West Ivory Poker Chip Set (3 Viewers)

Eventually - this set of ivory chips will most probably go to a new home in CONUS …
Trying to clear customs would be a potential
nightmare - and there would be serious
worries about the confiscation of the chips
by authorities for any number of reasons -
valid or not . In person sale of these chips
will probably be accomplished at a future
date . A direct handoff of the chip set for
cash .

The elephant already died to make the chips. It would be a shame to just waste them now. But depending on how far along the stream of commerce they are, establishing provenance may be a bear.
I was honestly having the discussion at work yesterday. We were discussing environmentalism....which is see more as a "keep it off my lawn and feel good" ideology than actual protectionism for the greater good to a massive extent. An example I used was the idea of forcing conservation of wild elephants through NGO's and lobbying to other nations.....Sounds great but in some of these nations these policies result in wild elephants destroying crops and property. In North America our ancestors shot most of the cougars, wolves, bears etc that would have otherwise harms their livestock/property/families for generations forward. Such policies directly impact other people. My solution is farming of those same elephants, relocating animals to farms would be a prime way to establish these farms.... I know how many people a moose can feed, I can only imagine how many people could be fed by an elephant.

Elephants are far too intelligent to eat. Don't be a monster. Stick with stupid animals like cows and chickens.

Also, even if we're going to be evil, farming elephants would be an incredibly inefficient way to convert vegetable matter into steaks. Cows are bad enough; elephants would be many times worse per pound of meat.

did some googling and found a nice recipe for a large elephant stew

ELEPHANT STEW
1 med. sized elephant
1 ton salt
1 ton pepper
500 bushels potatoes
200 bushels carrots
4, 000 sprigs parsley
2 sm. rabbits (optional)

Cut elephant meat into bite size pieces. This will take about 2 months. Cut vegetables into cubes (another 2 months). Place meat in pan and cover with 1, 000 gallons of brown gravy and simmer for 4 weeks. Shovel in salt and pepper to taste.
When meat is tender, add vegetables. A steam shovel is useful for this. Simmer slowly for 4 more weeks. Garnish with parsley. Will serve 3, 800 people. If more are expected, add the 2 rabbits - this is not recommended as very few people like hare in their stew.

This person has no idea how to make a large elephant stew. Keep looking.

Not that I am aware of . Most sets of ivory chips
are in private collections and rarely come up for
sale .

I've only ever seen one other playable set of ivories: Robert Eisenstadt's "Josephine" set. It was not sold in the estate auction; I'm assuming it was placed privately.

I've only ever seen singles (sometimes in lots of two or three) on eBay. Ivory sales - even legal ones - are banned on eBay, but you can sometimes find them by searching for "scrimshaw" or "old west". Searching completed listings might give you some price points for ivory singles.

The Eisenstadt estate was likewise almost all singles. Some were in large lots of thematically similar chips, but that's still just a lot of singles, not a set. There was one lot of 22 matched chips and three different lots of 16 matched chips each. You can see them here: https://auctions.potterauctions.com/Catalog.aspx?auctionid=1108 - the ivory chips are lots 643 through 701. You can see the prices that they sold for.

Here are two listings of ivory chips for sale. I don't know if they're still for sale; the descriptions are brief and no prices are shown. One listing is a large collection of assorted chips, not a set; the other is a collection of matched chips, but certainly not a complete set on its own.

I'm sure that there are some other playable sets floating around out there. I've never seen them, but I'm certainly not any kind of expert.

I'm much more likely to throw down 10K on a set of these than any pooping parrots or Circus Circus knockoffs...

Neither is going to happen, but I could at least justify it to myself for a set of ivory chips.

Wish that I could do layaway …

Yeah, sorry if my humor didn't come through there... but I was in fact joking.
