Playing poker in Casino Montreal, everyone at the table is French except for me. No problem here, less people to talk to.

Third hand in, a peak at my cards. R4 of diamonds.

I'm like "WTF is an R???, something is wrong with this deck...".

Took a second look, and the artwork is a King.

Took an uncomfortably long time to figure out the R was French for King.

Roi = King
Dame = Queen
Valet = Jacks

Had a big hand were my pocket Valets got cracked by 33 on a 377 flop (all in on the flop - stupid Valets).

Had another big hand when I flopped a flush with my Dame 7. All in on the flop against two pair and the flush held.

Was a fun time, SUPER passive table - never seen anything like it. At least 5 to every flop, plenty of family pots where it's limped around, very little raising, nothing but checks on most flops, players thinking any random two pair was the nuts.

I think there was a French young woman that was trying to have the R D V replaced with a tiered version of silver gold and platinum.

I got Aces full of gold bitches!!

Had the exact WTF experience a few years back when I was there. It was pretty jarring at first. And then having to pick up my hand to look at the full card to identify it.

They also had 10 handed electronic poker tables back then. They were used as feeder tables as players waited for live tables.

I kinda might maybe want a deck of these cards. Is possible?

Just wait until you find your first casino that has anti patriarchy playing cards!

FWIW during the French Republic (in the 18th Century) the revolutionaries did away with “court cards.” These were restored under Napoleon.
