Recently picked up a load of samples from @FearlessFred thank you once again mainly consisting of some tina card and web moulds some apache pharohs and some CPC atlantic clubs.

I see people rave about the CPCs and recommend them highly from the samples ive received i would be so unimpressed if i bought a full set from CPC and they turned out to be like these samples.

The edgespots have random bits of colour that look out of place and look to have been molded in to it

each label is so off centre.

The edgespots dont reach the same points in the middle

Some edgespots are missing bits of colour

Yet looking at these tinas and pharohs in comparison they all look uniform and much more appealing

So i guess my question is. Why the hype for CPC?

CPC chips are handmade, compressed clay chips. Irregularity is a feature, not a bug. Tina chips are printed ceramic chips. Many here prefer the look and feel of clay chips, but not everyone.

This is why we say:

GET SAMPLES!

They are handmade, compression molded clay chips. Under the intense pressure during the manufacturing process the clay moves in mysterious ways and the inlays can shift. Ultimately, each chip is completely unique and there can be some "imperfections". These "imperfections" are what makes clay chips perfect in the eyes of a lot of people here - myself included.

Ceramic chips i.e. Tina's are dye-sublimation printed. The exact same image can be printed on each face and the rolling edge. They are still unique because the printing can still be off-centre or misaligned, but they will look more uniform than clay chips.

You are in a good place if you don't like compression molded clay chips. You can save a lot of money by sticking to ceramics/china clays if that's what you like/prefer!

indeed i originally knew i was gearing towards the web mold tinas was just waiting for a uk based seller for some samples and ended up getting the cpcs as he had them aswell just for comparison purposes and with that solidified my plan to go with the webs

There are countless threads like this on here mate, the samples arent representative of the final product. See this thread - https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/quality-of-cpc.109904/

@BillyBluff is right though, you either like the handmade style or you don't. He and I certainly do! :ROFLMAO:

Seems reasonable i understand why people would be happy with it from an authenticity standpoint but with myself i needed functionality and uniqueness which i reckon will be more achievable with the tinas

Tina can (and will) re-use your designs at will. This has happened many times.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "functionality"?

I've been through several sets before finally arriving at CPCs, each of them had their flaws.

Just somthing that will withstand regular play at a reasonable price point as opposed to shelling out alot more for somthing id may be be a bit more precious about

Lucky for me im using one of the pre designed chips with my own label im fine if they re use cant imagine many people in leeds will want the exact same design as me haha

For sure i think it all depends where your interests lay im not by any means a serious chipper i have 0 interest in paulsons or splurging money for the closest rhing possible i just want to elevate my game with somthing unique and give a reason for people to keep coming back as opposed to trying to collect grail chips and sets

Unique in relative terms of the games in my city/country id say over hear 90%+ games here use dice or equivalent

This is good news for you, if you like the tina chips better than cpc you will be saving thousands of $$$. I wouldn't recommend browsing through the chip database, there are many sets of cpc chips there that may change your mind. I like the web mold chips for what they are and have purchased a few sets, but they are not in the same category as a custom set of cpc chips. What I mean by that is feel, sound, looks, and also how they will wear down over time. The web molds are new so we don't really know how they will wear, but we know cpcs will last a lifetime. The other thing that makes a big difference is the cpc mold. Some molds feel, look, and sound much better to me than others. For example, I don't love the feel of the A mold. It all comes down to your taste and budget, the cpcs are a hand made, heirloom quality item than has a cost associated with them that reflects that. The tina chips are an excellent inexpensive mass produced chip that comes in at a price point that allows anyone to have a nice set of custom chips. Although I wouldn't mention tina chips in the same breath as cpc chips, the web mold chips are magnitudes better than dice chips or any of the older gen China clay chips. Good luck, and have fun!

The Tina molds are great for massive sets for reasonable prices, along with fast turnaround time.

In terms of quality and feel, CPC is the hands down winner, but are also expensive and take a long time (over a year sometimes) to be produced.

I have both. I love my CPC sets. Purely custom. My Tina molds are great since I have a massive tournament set that would have cost me $10k and over a year of waiting if it was CPC.

Makes sense, at one point I had a set of 5k dice chips for a giant charity event I ran. I would imagine that unless you run a high stakes private game with a real need for security or you’re “one of us” spending 2k+ on a set of chips would seem crazy.

There’s no such thing as perfection when it comes to poker chips.

Paulson/CPC chips will all have variations and “flaws”.

Ceramics will have printing flaws and have the side dimple.

Plastic chips will also have printing flaws and sticker issues.

Just decide your budget and what you want. For me, I’ve bought plastic injection chips, then BR Pro ceramics, and two Tina sets. Currently making a Paulson cash set and saving for a CPC tourney set. Find your zen when it comes to chips.

I honestly like having sets of different types, from plastic to Paulson and everything in between. Not saying I use them all but I definitely will horde them all. I enjoy the differences in feel and sound. Like Timmah said find your zen, mine is collecting as many chips of all types that I can get my hands on, and I don’t think I’m alone on this, especially around here.

I wouldn't fault someone having their first sip of whiskey for not recognizing the differences between a quality single barrel and an average small batch. Keep exploring the hobby. In time you’ll get it. And for now enjoy the ceramics if that's what you like.

This and that the longer you fool around with chips the more likely it is your taste will change and evolve. There was a point in my chipping life when I didn’t like ceramic chips and I hated rhc chips, now I have multiple sets of both and love them for what they are.

If you were in the market for a car, and test drove a 1976 Ford Pinto and didn’t like it, would you bad mouth all Ford products, including their pickups and luxury cars? Cause that's what you are doing here.

When i think of samples i think that im just getting a very limited number of the exact product id be expecting to purchase in bulk i wasn't aware the samples could well be “seconds” of a slightly lesser quality clearly i misunderstood that

K now you know. Does it change anything?

Look I understand that you may not like A-mold. But then you go on to ask “why the Cpc hype”, and then extend what you don’t like about your second hand samples to their entire product line. That’s what I’m getting at, your shortsighted, uninformed assessment of their products as a whole.

You are getting informed, so that’s good.

Have you considered taking a stock design from our friends @BR Pro Poker and going semi custom with it? That's what I did

I am not saying that the Tina ceramics are bad, I am just saying ceramics from www.brpropoker.com are that much better.

I also wanted to say, don't listen to everyone telling you that you have to like something you obviously don't like. I did the same thing you are now. I got all the samples I could get my paws on and ceramics won for me too. You do you.

@xemulshionphilx also understand that your talking to the poker chip 1%ers those web mold chips you like would represent the best chips any non chipper would ever play with or see for sure besides possibly casino chips that they have used at the casino.

Yeah for sure alot of people seem to forget being in the uk its so hard to get anything of any quality above dice chips from an imports point of view tina is the most cost effective route for my needs and circumstance
