Making use of a good but not great breakdown of non-denoms (1 Viewer)

Resell the 80? I'm guessing they're another design. You might find a re-buyer here before you have to commit to the purchase, with some more info.

i guess i might just continue on through this entire build out with the idea that i'll vacuum up whatever i can find for as long as i'm interested and then cobble together the most reasonable set at the end of and sell all the "extras" at that point.

the only reason i'm not enthused about doing that is that i see how little interest most of these auctions garner on eBay. maybe selling the extras as a full set here would be better. won't know until i know what i have left.

here's the auction with the other 20 green btw. i've made offers barely under the asking price and all were ignored, so at this point i either have to pay full or let it go. they've been up there for weeks and weeks with no real interest, though. on a positive note, the salmon chips are cool looking, though i'm not sure what i'd use 20 salmon chips for.

note that the other chips in that auction do NOT match the ones i already have, only the greens.

The worst part about the salmon is you couldn't use them with the reds. Most of the auctions are for small lots rather than sets, but that might be due to those lots sticking around forever without selling...

yeah i've contacted a ton of the small lot sellers to see if they have large quantities available and have had very, very little response.

Got my latest shipment today and merged them with their new family.

Breakdown is now:
189 yellow
598 white
323 chocolate
160 red
225 blue
83 green
100 light blue

I also have 160 reds apart from the set that don't quite match in feel and so are not suitable for joining with the full set imo (though I will admit I'm being a bit persnickety).

When I unboxed the package today I found that the seller (likely inadvertently) included a few clover/shamrock chips among the FDLs. Certainly doesn't bother me. In fact, it does inspire me a bit to start pursuing the clover/shamrock chips to add to my FDLs.

I'll still be looking for more with my most sought after colors being white, red, and chocolate.

EDIT: Oh and I have 18 more whites on the way just to fill out the 6 racks and have a few extras.

Found some more on Etsy. Looks like the blue will be too dark, but I'm hopeful that the yellows and reds work and the whites will definitely fit. $80 shipped for 300 chips isn't too bad, but there's a chance I'll be paying $80 for 75 whites if the others are a no go.

This will be my first time knowlingly purchasing non-FDLs with the intention of mixing. I'm okay with it.

Sure, you go ahead and tell yourself whatever you need to if it helps you sleep at night (or in this case helps you buy more chips). ;)

Even though it has nothing to do with the historical purity of the set, I am actually encouraged by the fact that in the cop game scene in Rounders, they use FDLs and "E" chips mixed together. I would prefer to have only one monogram within the set, though, so I'm hoping that I don't see a bunch of attractive non-"H" monogram sets now.

P.S. My OCD integrity is still intact since I'll be dumping any of these that are off in color.

Well the "H" chips are well within the existing color variation of the whites and the reds and yellows are acceptable, but the blues don't work. So I was able to fill my red and yellow racks and add some whites. Current rack-rounded breakdown:

100 Light Blue
200 Yellow
600 White
300 Chocolate
200 Red
200 Blue
80 Green

Well on my way to an additional full rack of white and have 50ish more reds and yellows, so the build continues.

Thanks to the several members who have alerted me to auctions and sales elsewhere. Even if they don't always work out, it's very much appreciated!

I have to say, this has been a fun thread to follow. "The Genesis of a Set".

It should be made into a movie by Michael Bay, The part of jbutler will be played by Salma Hayek.

I've always thot Uma Thurman would play a strong jbutler.

Have you seen these? ..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1906-1915-M...TIFUL-CONDITION-CHIPS-WITH-CASE-/151886021253

They look like the same type of chip as your others (and there are green in this set) :)

Thanks! I had seen those. Unfortunately they're are a slight variation on my chips as mine are smooth and these are textured. As with other textured chips of this kind, they also use either a slightly different material for or a different method for pressing the inlay which results in a slightly different feel to the chip.

I'm sure it seems like I'm being overly picky when collecting chips nearly hundred years old, but what can I say, I am what I am ;)

Jack, I did see a set of H initials on eBay a day ago or so.

More on the way. Wouldn't have been interested in the pinks, but the guy gave me a price for the lot. The whites will be enough to put me to 7 full racks and hopefully the chocolates match. Not enough for a fourth rack, but every little bit helps...

Doubt the greens will match the 80 I have now, but figured why not.

Thanks, Dave. I know there were a few lots on there as of a day or so ago, but I believe they had round edges. One seller relists a couple of "H" chip lots with cool old racks and cases, but has them WAY overpriced and has so far not responded (or responded negative? I can't recall) to my requests to sell the chips without the racks/cases as a more realistic price.

My wife is packing up the house in New Jersey while I'm conveniently not in town to lend a hand. I guess she's made it to the back of the basement at the workbench because her latest message to me concerned the subject of this thread.

"more fucking chips????" I'm just waiting for her to get to the guest room closet.

At least someone's enjoying the moving process.
