Trying to convince myself to pull the trigger on a custom set from CPC; thinking of doing a cash set and a tournament set actually. Please ignore the placeholder inlay. I have not started the inlay art work, as not really sure how to even do that. Trying to determine "name" for the "casino", thinking of something around my name/initials may be interesting - "Rob's Room" - "Club W"/"Club Dub" - "The W Club" - or perhaps not and go with a theme...

Nevertheless, I wanted to get some primary colors and edge spot combos worked up. I wanted to stick with the “weighted” colors as well, and avoid dayglo colors to limit my changes for the edge spot distortion. I am going for a set with edge spot progression. I want a range of chip denominations to be able to play standard, or "high-roller" tournaments.

Here is my first attempt at a tournament set with the following denominations: 25 - 100 - 500 - 1,000 - 5,000 - 25,000 - 100,000

I am thinking I may go with the Ewing mold, or perhaps stay with the Hourglass as shown.

I like the 7/8" inlay size, because I like the ring of primary color around the inset. What are thoughts going to full 1” – any better other than more real-estate for the graphics?

I am trying to stay "cost effective" (ha, ha, ha) with edge spots, yet get some progression:
  • The 25 - 100 - 500 are “Level 3”
  • The 1,000 - 5,000 - 25,000 are “Level 4”
  • The 100,000 is “Level 5”
Please share some thoughts on this set. Also, insight on quantity of each denomination for 3 table tournaments - with some "back-ups" if chips get lost or damaged.

Do you have a colour sample from CPC? If not, get one. Certain colours look very different than how they appear in the online tool. Yellow for example is not bright in real life - more of a dark mustard.

Other than that, I’d advise to take your time. Save your mockups and re-visit them. It’s a process, not an event.

In terms of the first design:

- I see some good cohesion between the $25, $100, $500, $5k and $25k.

- the colours are predominantly darker. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the yellow $1k stands out to me in the lineup, and not in a good way.

- I’d like to see higher contrast between spots and base colour on a few chips: $25 and $100 and $500 mainly.

- re: the $100k chip. I personally think the white chip with rainbow spots thing has been overdone to death at this point.

Good start! Looking forward to where you land in the end. Enjoy the process!

Ahh, that is great input! Thank you for that. What molds do you think are optimal?
Get samples. Even better, get shuffle stacks for molds you’re really considering.

That said, I think most people would agree that CSQ is one of the better feeling molds from CPC.

Thank you for the feedback. I agree about the process. I was trying to stay all in the weighted colors because I saw CPC say there is higher chance for edge spot to be "broken" or misaligned or something like that when you use the dayglo. I buddy of mine has the colors and I will ask to borrow them.

You are suffering from "too many denoms" syndrome. Really, map out what you really need so you have some reasonable idea of budget.
I think my budget is ok, and I was planning on "going crazy" for one big splurge as I like the idea of being able to go with different tournament set ups; from a standard $25/$50 starting blinds with a $10k starting stack all the way to like a "Monster Stack" starting with like $100k in chips.

I know same thing really, but I think it would be fun to be betting "huge" amount early/mid tournament instead of just super late in normal tournament.

Regardless, thank you for the feedback and thoughts.

How about Rob's Pirate Cove/Cave/Club? Use your simple pirate logo with large bold tournament denominations underneath.

Everyone and their grandma are switching to big blind antes. Save some money, get rid of the T25 (which is usually the most boring chip anyways) and splurge on the hundo chip instead. Since you're going all the way up to T100k, you can still host T10k to deep stack tournaments.

7/8" is fine if you have a simple inlay. If too much graphics, it might get a little cluttered and lost in translation.

Molds are a personal choice. I like the large crowns or elephant and crown mold myself. But the CSQ or Diamond Square mold are also popular. Not many people choose the hourglass mold but if it speaks to you, go for it. Definitely get small stacks of the different molds so you can feel them out. What looks good on a chip designer tool might sound and feel off IRL.

Wow Rob, I'm surprised that you're taking this leap from Tina's to CPC already. Good for you and best of luck. We have some super chip designers here so you should be in good hands.

Thanks for the input. Can you share some of the designers names? What do the fees for design work typically run?

I like your set overall. It's all a bit cali-colored and bright at the same time. However, I completely agree with @KingZilla ! You chose the wrong colors! Get samples ASAP. If your playroom has poor color rendering light, you'll get horrible combos and mega dirty stacks. So dirty that you won't be able to tell the chips apart.

@allforcharity gave you really good advice. If you don't play any kind of poker, then it's better not to take these chips. They will just lie on the shelf. Or take them if you have money, but create another theme that you like. Then you will have several sets and you can change them... This is really good advice. I have a limit set that I used once, but the players did not like the idea, and it just lies on the shelf. I always had a lot of cash sets for playing with relatives, but eventually we switched to tournaments exclusively. And used cash sets as t1. Why am I writing this... It is impossible to give advice on the mold and colors of chips. It's a matter of taste. But if I had listened to advice at the time and read more information, it would have saved me a few thousand. But, of course, it would not have been as fun.

And now the designer light for "nice atmosphere" bought by my wife... It is really very nice, for sitting together, drinking wine and watching a movie... But, with chips it works the opposite way. I can hardly distinguish some chips from each other (5k, 25k) and I don't see any spots at all on 100 and 500.
This will be a beautiful set, but only for playing in bright sunlight.
