I have a poker table but the felt was stained by a drink and I cannot for the life of my get rid of it. Needless to say I want to redo the felt. A few questions.

1. Do I have to remove the foam and replace that too or can I get away with just replacing the felt? My rail obviously is removable so that’s not an issue.

2. If replacing the foam I’m really not sure what type of foam to get. I like a spongy feel but obviously not too crazy and I don’t want to feel the bouncy-ness a tad.

3. As for felt. I am reading speed cloth isn’t the way to go but I definitely want to spend the extra money and get high quality felt/cloth. Can anyone give me some recommendations?

Thank you guys so much in advance.

Can you show us some pics? see what we are working with?

iirc I used Velora and I think its a closed cell foam and then covered it with a headliner.

I think this for the padding, and this over it and then custom Chanman felt on top. Its one of the best to shuffle and deal on imo

Hey,

I shared some of my experience in refelting/new foam here (also, I made a stupid mistake buying the wrong felt initially):

Agree with @Machine - you want closed cell foam.

For cleaning, some folk use the wet bissel fabric cleaner vacuum handheld units, might be worth a try as well as one last chance.

GL!
Thank you very much for the ideas. I cannot remember the foam I purchased almost 18 years ago but I love the foam that is on it and it’s held up tremendously all of these years. Ideally I want to replicate it but without removing the felt I have no idea the thickness that I purchased.

I appreciate your feedback and I’ll give the cleaning suggesting a try as well.

Thank you a ton. I’ll send pics when I get home and we can go from there. I’m hoping this isn’t a huge project for myself as the plywood is already cut to size obviously and the rail is in shape great too.

I also wonder — can I just buy a table that’s already felted with a removal rail that just lays on top of a utility table? Because that’s exactly what I have now. I don’t mind redoing the felt but I can’t seem to find a company or anyone that has THAT for sale. It’s either an all or just the topper kinda thing. Unless I’m looking in the wrong places.

As you can see I tried years ago to cover up the red felt with black felt garbage and it was, ugh, ugly.

I guess I don't understand what you were trying to do with the black felt. Cover up the red that wrapped under the table?

Yes like a moron I thought that if I just covered it in cheap black felt it would be the perfect solution. Obviously it wasn’t. So I just removed it and dealt with the stain on my red top.

Is that red felt from a fabric store, or did you get it from a poker table supply place? If the former, you will be blown away by one of the previously mentioned custom toppers. The cards slide like they are on ice.

Seriously, look into it.

No it’s from a legit poker company. I spent the money for a nice foam and felt I do know that much. Either way I’m looking into the topper. It should be ok on top of the felt right with the rail kind of holding it down??

That's exactly how my setup is. I've only used the topper for one 6 hour game so far but I had zero issues.

I sent him a DM just haven’t heard back. The dimensions of my table are 73” x 43”. Is that an odd dimension?

Doesn't matter if it's odd, he can do any size!

I like that. Should I go a tad under the actual dimension so it doesn’t bubble up when the rail pushes down on it?

I gave him exact dimensions and it fits perfectly, right up to the very edge on all sides, no overhang.

If you do have trouble when you put the rail on, you could always trim it down a bit. It's pretty much mouse pad material, so easy to cut.

Just out of curiosity did you put yours over top of existing felt like I would be doing?

Does he have a website or does he only do this on this forum? I sent him a message and haven’t heard back yet.
