What feels like going through a gazillion themes and endless nights in front of Illustrator I am finally 75% certain that this is my final theme.
I don't have much experience in the do's and don't's of making custom poker chips regarding label design and chip colors and edge spots. I like that all chips have the same edgespot - so no edge progression here, except for the single .25 frac. Almost all the colors for the cash set is inspired (straight up stolen) from the Cocaine Giraffe set, which I absolutely love the colors and vibe of.

THE LABEL:

The label is inspired from the "Dog of Wisdom" short - you can find it here: Dog of Wisdom
It is stupid enough for me to spend 100s on my first custom set. And since the games I will run will not be serious and we will mainly be drunk most of the time - it is perfect for low stakes cash and chilled tourneys. I do want to remove currency symbol from the tourney set - but I might not do it. Haven't really decided on this yet, since no chips higher than $25 will be part of the cash game. I dunno. Again haven't decided on this yet.

Again these are heavily inspired from the Cocaine Giraffe. Same edge spots throughout the set. I am not quite sure I want the frac to be a solid. The $25 is also one I am having a hard time figuring out - if I even want it to be green or if I should go with something completely different - but I also want to keep it true to the Vegas coloring.

WHAT I AM ASKING FROM YOU:

I need feedback and criticism on this set - from the design / decisions I made with the label, the edge spots, the colors, dirty stack issues etc. I would also like to hear from you if you have some experience or regrets from designing and ordering your custom set.

Cash set do .25 - $20 (add a $100 plaque if you think you need it)
Tourney do 25 - 5000

This way, none of your amounts crossover from cash to tournament.

Really sit with this a while. The only slight design/color issue I see is the darkness of the 100 and 500 chip. The lighting situation where you play will have a great deal to do with how workable that particular issue is. Otherwise it's a fine set though again I prefer variety but that's me. You said you like the same spot pattern so you do you.

Well done, sir! I think everything came out great. Label art can be tricky as you are working on a small area but the pertinent parts of your label are easily readable including the image. The only thing I could criticize is the small text (Est., year and cardroom) are tough to read. But that's nit picking. Overall, great job.

Nice set, design, and mockups. Good retro feel to inlay.

Partial red colour blind person's input. Lesser issue for many. $5 and $25 are the two my eyes see as the closest colours. Though I can see the difference in your image I worry about colour blind dirty stack without bright lighting. Yep, I struggle with it in your set mo kup. Interestingly I don't have the same problem for $25 vs $5000, buv they won't be in the same stack anyhow.

The label design is really well done. The cash set colors are great with the label in your mockups. Huge fan of your work!

Well done Sir!!!!
My compliments

I'm trying to design some labels myself and I know how daunting it can be. They look great!
Yeah it is back and forth all the time. I guess I am happy how they are now - I am glad you like them!

That is a great suggestion! I think I am going to do the $20's in the cash game.
So you think the 100 and 500 would look too much alike in a darker environment? That is a good point! I will look into this!

Thank you! I agree with you. I might have to either increase font size or make it more bold to make sure they come out clean. I will do a test print on regular paper and hold the label an arms length away an see if the problem is still there.
I say ship it. Sometimes analysis paralysis is bad. This set is absolutely stunning.
Analysis paralysis is my middle name, man :D Thank you for your feedback!

Good point! I have a player who is color blind - I have to ask him if this is an issue for him! Thank you for your feedback! I didn't think of this!

I have been thinking about using the RHC mold, but since that is a bit unethical, I will go for either web or sun. Since I can't get hold of any samples here in Europe, I have to render it out. Good thing I work with this every day :) The web mold is speaking to me, but the sun mold is also flattering!

Web mold — and it's not even close. I feel like the sun mold is a little too busy and takes attention away from the (wonderful) inlay design.

The rendering looks too good to be Aliceramics.
A clay chip would exactly look like this.

Off topic:
Could you please do a rendering of the ‚new’ black/red Circus Circus $ 100?

Edge Progression
I tried to add subtle edge progression to the set and keeping it in 3 edge spots on each chip. I do not like this compared to the older version. It gets way too busy and too far away from what I want from this set. So.. This settles that.

Denom Balancing
Added the $20 to the cash set to keep it seperate from the tourney set. But now that I have thought about it I don't think a $20 or $25 in our cash game makes sense. Some of us are on a tight budget and we only play for the social aspect of it, but again, if there are no stakes then poker is just not the same. So I will go
back to .25/1/5 and ditch the 20 for the cash.

I have also adjusted the colors a bit. I have lightened the 500 a fair bit and darkened the 100. This should be enough contrast to tell them apart in a dark environment. I spoke to my mate I thought was colorblind and he told me he wasn't colorblind. I have known him for 28 years. I get smarter every day.
