So I wanna start a small set of them. I see the premade Spinettis premade Nevada club and Becks sets. That the easiest direction to get some 1s and 5s without breaking the bank? Like the Nevada club ones... But prefer the Becks fives... Really love the Pick Hobson 5s, but can't be burning 300-400 a rack. Any ideas gentlemen?

I love my mixed TRK Reno set. If your worried about spending a ton of loot then you should probably avoid the TRK bug. That is the only suggestion I can give you.

Yep, run away, run far far away. I've spent more per chip on my TRK's than I ever thought I would spend on this hobby.

Careful, it’s a slippery slope.

Question to the seasoned collectors— do you ever see “perfectly broken in condition” TRKs? I see this with Gently used Paulsons a lot. but for the most part, I have seen TRK in only two different conditions,,,mint (or near), and bicycle tires. Why is that? Is it because TRK stay near-mint looking for a long time? Or another reason?

So my idea is just a small 1/2 set. Nothing crazy. And a slow build. I just figured one of those sets is a good start.... Add more 5s and a barrel of 25s as I go. I don't need fancy, but apart of history would be nice.

I pieced together a simple 1/1 set. However, it took me four attempts to find a 25.00 chip that I was happy with. I won't tell you how much I spent per chip (which was less than half of what I was willing to spend).

For some reason I just bought a 3rd rack of fives. Because, well, why not.

Yeah, I've followed your adventure for a bit. It's a beautiful set...

I came across those $25s on spinettis last week and my first thought was I can’t believe detroitdad spent that per chip. I feel like I remember your initial trk set post mentioning that you didn’t want to break the bank.

Seeing everyone else break their price rules makes me feel a little better when I do it haha.

I didn't pay the listed price per chip. There was a quantity discount

Yeah I figured as much, though I’d imagine that was still some way north of the others in that set.

Still, sometimes you have to do it to finish off a set properly. Love the base colour on them, they really pop.

Just do it. A small mint TRK set should cost you $300-$400 tops...

per rack

The man asks for help and you brag by posting that f*&^%$ picture? What happens when he takes a bank loan and sells a kidney, trying to replicate that set? How will you feel about that Dan?  :ROFLMAO: :cautious: :p

I have a very small set. But once you go TRK, you never go back...so I hear

Bought my first TRKs from @detroitdad about 2 months ago, 2 barrels of Pick Hobson 25s.
Had a great month on the tables in Augest and my set has now grown to a mostly complete Pick Hobson 1/2 - 2/5 cash set.
3 racks of 5s, 1 rack of 25s and a rack of 100s. Needed some 1s so a couple racks of
Nevada Lodge fixed that.
Thanks Bill for passing the sickness on to me. LOL!
By far the nicest chips I ever owned, just need to replenish my bankroll now.
No regrets!

Only one -- you're gonna have to change your mind, one way or another.

Either about collecting TRK sets entirely..... or about how much you are willing to spend.

Cheapest turnkey sets (except maybe solids) are probably well-used and worn Jessie Beck $1s and $5s, and even those really don't fall into the 'cheap' category.

Well, I'm willing to spend money. But maybe a slow burn to get there. That's why I figured one of those sets might be a good start point with some grinding to complete it.

I like the JB Riverside TRK set--the one from spinettis is broken in, I believe. The color combos on those JB chips is sensational, and as I said before, you've gotta embrace the grandma--a whole lotta Reno history about that grand old gal.

Oh, the grandma does not scare me one bit. Hahaha

Then call Mikko and take the plunge. The colors on that set are fantastic. Also, a good price on that set (but you might even get better pricing if you buy additional racks). I'd see if he can expand it to:

200 x $1
300 x $5
80 x $25
20 x $100

(Or skip the hundos and get a full rack of $25s)

Negotiate on pricing--list prices on spinettis site are a starting point.

I'll quote off the record what was suggested to me about the Jessie Becks, "you need to embrace the old bag" and its true, they are a great looking chip.

I think TRKs need their own sub forum !!
