$1/2 NLHE: River value with aces up? (1 Viewer)

Lol If this bugs you then you might watch too many tournaments on TV. I do not think I have ever been at a 1/2 or higher cash table, casino or illegal, that I haven't seen this happen to the weak players all night by all the strong players when there is a chance the strong player is behind. Or when they think they can get away with it.

Just a simple "whatcha got" will get a lot of players to show sometimes, if they show any resistance and dont want to show then I show my whole hand.

I see this ALOT from the regs at Foxwoods. I don't table-change anywhere near as much as I should, but when I see this more than once in an hour, I rack up and switch tables. Why? Because the fish aren't going to be there long. They're not completely stupid - they'll feel like the resident donkey the first time they're coerced into showing a shitty bluff or an inferior hand that was overplayed and didn't improve. They'll end up leaving sooner than they otherwise would've - it's tapping on the glass.

Also, this doesn't work against experienced players - they'll either sit there and wait you out (and the entire table will hate both of you) or they just table and that's that.

Poker is war, people pretend it is a game.
-Doyle Brunson.

Yeah, but Doyle is really, really fucking old. Also, you're missing the forest for the trees. You want the shitty players being relieved that they didn't have to table their K3o and giving them the opportunity to shrug and say "Yeah, you had me outkicked"....it might induce them to try that bullshit again...

On river decision- A wise man (Limon) once said that great players do two things that bad players don't; Value own themselves with the worst hand and get bluffed off the best hand. You're good here way too much to not go for value.

On showdown- Agree with don't worry about making the fish show, and certainly don't angle them into it. If a guy thinks showing his cards is fun, oblige, and do the same every now and then. Giving the fish action and making them feel comfortable is the best thing you can do for a game. On the other hand, if I call a good regs shove with the nuts, I payed to see his cards. And I will. Won't slowroll, but you show first, buddy.

I definitely do plenty of the former and I suspect I do a bit of the latter. Just goes to show you even bad players can do it, too ;)

As a merge or specifically to get him to put me on missed hearts?

It looks a lot like a missed draw, but you are almost never behind with this action and many people will snap with AJ or worse on this board, with a small blank river pairing card. And to scare people even if he folds.

I don't think you need to consider merging in these games except maybe for regulars you see very often. If then.

Bergs, good one.
