1/3” HD Open Cell Foam - Experiences? (1 Viewer)

I like 1/4" open celled foam for my playing surface since it's more malleable than closed cell. I find open cell easier to pickup cards without sacrificing chip cutting accuracy or chip stacking. The only downside is that you will have to have a waterproof playing surface (or coat it yourself) otherwise spills will be disastrous and sink into your foam. Since my playing surfaces are all waterproof, I found no reason to use closed cell foam on my builds.

I have used this 1/2" foam several times. I like it. It results in a lot softer surface than the 1/4" volara. Just boils down to personal preference.
I have this foam (1/4" version) on my old table and had some issues. Which side did you decide to face upwards?

Both sides are the same. Doesn't matter.

I have used 3/8” closed cell rubber multiple times for tables I have had built or resurfaced. I have found it gives the best balance of give for easy pick up of cards while being stiff enough that chips don’t topple over.

I have a friend that used a very thick foam for her tables, works great for cards, but the chips sink into it. They fall over sometimes and it isn’t easy to match up stacks because of it.
