I’m rooting for Mel here, with the hope that egos don’t come into play and make it unattainable for her. Best of luck, Mel!

Best of luck to everyone and anyone who wants these chips.

Auction format is going to decide who wants these the most. Don't think there's any ego here? Just a bunch of chip nerds freaking out about some new chips.

The only complete rack of $20’s that will be available for the foreseeable future.

Plus, they’re incredible!

I don't think "who wants these the most" is an accurate measure of who will end up with these, honestly.
That's definitely true.

There will be an intersection of desire and means/will to pay. But that's not any different than any other auction on this site?

Not sure why people should back down from bidding and being labelled as having an ego if they keep bidding on these chips.

Not saying that they should. I was just pointing out that your statement was not necessarily true.
Nobody should back down and stop bidding. I myself, am done bidding here. Go get 'em, boys.

Sorry - should have been clear that I didn't think you were saying that. It was a different member.

I'm just on the sidelines watching how this chipset being unleashed onto the forum. It's fascinating watching folks buy these up with such enthusiasm.

Every one of us has their own perspective and take on the chipping market. In my opinion, this hobby is headed in the wrong direction. It is slowly becoming more and more of a rich man’s playground. Try as they may, but the average chipper in here doesn’t stand a chance if certain chips are being sought after by a small handful. This statement isn’t meant to purposely rub anybody the wrong way, but merely a realistic outlook on the current state chipping.

I don't disagree at all.

Except I think we're already there. This has turned into a hobby for the affluent. At least if you're talking about low quantity custom Paulson sets. There are plenty of other ways to enjoy the poker chip hobby in a cheaper manner. TCR Paulson sales, Alibaba customs, China clay, etc, etc.

We're past the point of no return. The only market correcting force that will apply a meaningful downward pressure on Paulson chips is a huge influx of Paulson chips. Only way that is happening is if Paulson reopens its doors to retail orders. And that's if they'd allow crazy customization of colors and edge spots - something that they've never offered the public. And we know that's never happening.

Although not your intent, your post came across as condescending to me. You were advocating for someone who was lucky enough to already be chosen to buy a few racks of these chicken coop chips for relatively 'cheap' (in comparison to what the 'market value' is winding up to be for these chips). 'Cheap' being a relative term when the average price was $9/chip prior to these auctions.

There's a very large number of folks who weren't lucky to be chosen but now have the equal opportunity to bid on these.

I think it's unrealistic/unreasonable to have any hope or expectation of getting a playable set of these for 'cheap'. That's a pipe dream. Asking people to settle down with their bidding and assuming ego is at play of they do bid is a bit much. It's also disrespectful to the seller to ask people to refrain from bidding.

I'm all for equality, sharing, being good to your neighbor, kum ba yah, etc, etc. But not when it comes to something as frivolous as custom Paulsons. And as especially frivolous as these +$9/chip poker chips.

First and foremost, if it really did come across as condescending, then I sincerely apologize as that was not my intent whatsoever. I was merely trying to state the obvious, which is that certain chips will be out of the grasp of 99% of the forum when the final few bids are amounts that only two to three people can cope with. Several of us have bit the bullet on the $9 mark to acquire stuff like ESPT and the like, even $18-20 when it comes to specific 43mm chips in smaller quantities, but not much after that mark.

As for the ego portion that keeps being brought up. Let's not beat around the bush here, we all know full well that someone wants to own as much as possible for the sole purpose of feeding that ego. It's not like this horse is talking out of its ass. It's speaking from experience and what we've seen. That's all.
