so not sure how that works

The $175 bid shows as 4:59 PM and the auction ended at 5 PM, so it seems to me like it was timely unless I’m missing something here.

Yes and that means the auction ends at 5:04:00 which means BigSlicks bid is not valid.

They call it the 5 minute rule but you should think of it as the 4minute rule because even a bid 4minute and 1 second after could be too late (if the prior bid happened at 59 seconds into the minute).

The bid at 7:59pm (ET) extends the auction 5 mins. The close time is now 8:04pm(ET). Bids at the close time are not valid.

Auctions and Classifieds will be getting a major upgrade later next year. There won't be any more 5 min rule. Bidding will just close when it ends.

I like the five min rule its just does the auction end on the 5min mark or on the 5min mark does a bid qualify that's all we would need to clarify
