2-way or 4-way stretch vinyl for the rail. Is the 4-way really that much easier? (1 Viewer)

Howdy all,

Been over a decade since I made my last table. But now, you degenerates have inspired me to make another, with a custom designed felt.
Even designed some new chips - thanks to @justincarothers
I don't remember what vinyl I used in the past - it was probably from Hobby Lobby or JoAnns. The place that I ordered my felt from (Casino Supply) sells a 2-way stretch vinyl: https://www.casinosupply.com/products/modena-poker-table-rail-vinyl-per-foot However, many suggest the 4-way stretch from YourAutoTrim.com Does the 4-way stretch really make a noticeable difference when putting things together?

While we're at it, Casino Supply also has 70lb foam https://www.casinosupply.com/products/poker-table-rail-foam-sheet-70-pound-1-x-54-x-106 for the rail vs 40lb foam that YourAutoTrim.com has https://www.yourautotrim.com/1x54x1060hdr.html

Ideally, I'd like to just pick up things at CasinoSupply since it's local, but if the stuff from YourAutoTrim is BETTER, I'll go with that. I see some conflicting posts about the type and weight of the rail foam.

Am I over-thinking this? Or would either options be fine? We'd be lucky to get 1 or 2 games a month so it wouldn't see a crazy amount of action. My previous table held up well over the last 10 years.

I’ve been a Casino Supply guy on all 5 or 6 of my last builds. Reliable, free shipping and prompt.

I used YAT for my build ~June 2023 since it seemed to be the cheapest for all the materials. I used either 3/4 or 1” foam on the railing, no issues at all and I store the table on its side (foam is compressed) with no noticeable issues.

I almost had to restart the project. Maybe I did something wrong but 2 way vinyl was EXTREMELY difficult to stretch enough to make it at the rounds and the ends of the table. I’d go 4 way next time for sure

I've used both and of course the 4 way stretch is easier for sure. I find that less stappling and restappling with the 4 way around the arcs.
The 2 way needs stapling, then removing to restretch, stappling, etc etc until most of the wrinkles are removed. It is much easier to do it without an assistant with the 4 way.

I did have a buddy over to help and we were both sweating and swearing with 2-way. It was terrible.

This was my exact experience with the 2-way stretch vinyl. I removed and restapled entire sections to get the stretch uniform.
