I got gifted those this weekend. Long story short, I won a stay at the Plaza and part of the contest was a Plaza chip set, which someone else got but of course I asked if they have any extra I would love to have them. So when I arrived the marketing manager gave me an envelope with these in it.

All I can find about them is they are from 2004, I imagine there aren’t many out as I can’t find any pictures or anything about these ones, I’m guessing due to the high denom there are many just sitting in collections. Any other info I could find about these would be awesome!

Some of these sold on eBay in the last several weeks.

In Vegas, when chips are considered obsolete and no longer in use, the gaming commission says they have to be destroyed. Looks like quite a few of the higher value chips escaped the dreaded shredder.

Nice pickup!

Oh, I see them now! Hopefully that’s not the other contest winner, but that looks like the dates line up with when they would have got them. Definitely not looking to sell mine!

The Plaza ceo also was ha ding some of the old plaza chips out one day a couple months ago. I don’t remember seeing LVC ones in that post but maybe they could have been handed out then too.

Majority of these were destroyed and were used in the early 2000s, released in 2004. The same is for the LVC and the Plaza chips.

A few months ago the CEO was also giving some sample sets of the LVC, Plaza and Western Casino chips which included denoms from $1-500. I believe they were somehow able to hold back some of these higher denoms chips, or maybe someone tried to come and cash some in and they just accepted them. I don't think that's the case, but maybe.

I was surprised to see so many older high denom chips too when I got my sample set. It was very interesting.

Very cool! I saw his post about the chips and tried to get some held as I don’t live in Vegas. I was shocked they had any left by the time I got there. I wish I saved the story he posted because he had a short video of a bunch of chips across a storage room table.
