Casino Owner Who Wrote the Book on the Dunes Casino Shares His Stories at Casino Collectibles Show

Meet Geno Munari, author and former UNLV casino operations professor, at the world’s largest casino memorabilia expo June 13 in Las Vegas

Geno Munari learned the casino business from the inside, working at the Dunes casino for over eight years. He parlayed that experience and his personal contacts into the only book about the famous Las Vegas landmark, The Dunes Hotel and Casino: The Mob, the connections, the stories. Munari graduated from employee to proprietor as owner of Cowboy Gene’s casino in Henderson. His resume includes stints at the California Club, Flamingo, Burbon Street, and Imperial Palace. He taught others about his passion for the casino industry for five years as an adjunct professor in “casino operations” at UNLV. Munari looks forward to sharing his vast repertoire of gaming experience with visitors to the Casino Collectibles Association’s 31st annual show. He will greet those attending on Thursday, June 13 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Exhibit Hall C at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The show runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 13 -15, 2024.

I’m new to the hobby and never been to one of these events before, so bear with me please.

I’m going to be in Vegas for my birthday coincidentally while this show is taking place. I’m a casual collector who’s goal is to get one $1 chip (I usually go with my favorite looking one) from each property I’ve visited over the years.

Will I be able to go to this event and buy single chips that I’m looking for? Is there a big selection? Obviously prices vary by chip, but are the prices usually pretty reasonable? Nothing I’ll be looking for will be overly rare or limited, I don’t think.

Here’s some examples of some chips I’d love to pick up at the show, if available:

http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip_search.php?ccg=015918
http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip_search.php?ccg=072661

http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip_search.php?ccg=000392

http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip_search.php?ccg=001568

http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip_search.php?ccg=019084

Are these the kinds of chips I’d be able to find at a show like this? In good condition, hopefully.

Apologies if dumb questions. Like I said, very new to the hobby and not sure how these types of shows work/what kind of selection I can expect.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Yes you will be able to attend even without preregistering. Depends on what day you will be attending will be how much the admission is.

Recommend you go to the website and look at all the information that has already been posted. There is also some videos on the page that can give you an idea of what it will look like on the floor.

I highly recommend checking it out, especially if you’re already in Las Vegas. The chips you are looking for should be easy to find at the convention and reasonably priced, based on what I have experienced. Several vendors will have a bunch of more recent and live chips that you seek.

Here’s a picture of the floor from a couple years ago. Many vendors have organized binders and some have piles/containers you can dig through. Some have really expensive chips and some have more common items, but most have a mix. It’s really a lot of fun, I think. And if you like chips, there’s nothing like it.

Super helpful and gave me a great idea of the setup and vibe I can expect! I think I’m definitely gonna make my way over there while I’m in town. Never been to South Point either and been meaning to check it out, so a good excuse to kill two birds with one stone. Thanks for the reply! Cheers.

Late to the party and been out of touch for a while…

Is there a way for me to ask any folks attending to keep an eye out for a specific chip for me?

Willing to pay a finders fee (asking with reimbursement of chip cost and mailing cost).

Too late now but @Okku had a thread going for that.

Rats, for some reason I couldn’t find @Okku ‘s thread at the time.

Been looking for 2 years for this illegal chip from my old stomping ground of Jeffersonville, IN to get closer to completing my collection since moving away from there. Maybe I’ll try posting a wanted ad here again, though I’ve not had any luck on PCF nor on my rare forays to the Chip Forum.

There was a table/vendor that had a vast collection of only illegals. I don’t collect them or know anything about them, so I didn’t pay much attention, but maybe someone else has their contact info for you.
