Advice for first time set (1 Viewer)

Hi all, first post on the forum as looking for some advice.

After watching countless reviews etc I like the look of the Majestic poker chips from Apache poker.

However, I have 2 issues:
1. I am from the UK and shipping is extortionate - are there any UK sites that list these or ways to get around this as my search has been fruitless?
2. What is the best breakdown of chips? For context, I play micro stakes cash games with a small group (5-10), from 5NL to 10NL, but would like the set to be able to used in the future so ideally also suit 25NL
3. Also, I like the look of the 5c and 25c majestic chips but not the $1 so much. I am considering alternatively getting5$,25$ and $100 and treating as 1/100th of the value- what do you think?

Welcome to the forum! I have to warn you - this place is a rabbit hole. Nobody's wallet survives unscathed.

2. The veteran poker scientists here will have more to say on this but the basic rule of thumb I've learned is you want a rack of nickels, two racks of quarters, and a rack or two of the dollars to start with. If future-proofing I suggest getting the next couple denominations, $5 and $25 to boost your bank. This forum is chock-full of threads discussing and debating breakdowns so you're going to have your hands full. 3. More power to you if you do that. Get the chips you like, your players will enjoy them more too. More versatile that way I think. Not that I'm biased or anything (The smallest chip in my set is $5000, all the way to $1,000,000.)

There's a tool in the resources section that will help you determine your ideal chip set breakdown.

Once you have that, you could post a Wanted ad. These come up regularly in the Classifieds.

Personally, it would drive me crazy to have the wrong denominations on my chips.

Get samples. Pictures are a nice start, but there is no substitute for touching the chips / hearing the chips / seeing how they stack / seeing how the various denominations look together.

You know... you could relabel the Majestics to make it fit your taste. If you don't like the stock $1 chip, you could choose a different chip and put a custom $1 label on that. I have to warn you though, if you pursue that route, that immediately places you in LEVEL 2 of this cursed amazing hobby.

And if you're considering custom inlays, you might as well consider Tina's chips, and if you're heading down that path, you could then think about custom CPCs...

Are they wrong denominations if they're just magnified x10^n though? OP can ignore the 2 zeroes, or treat the $ as cents (what's the equivalent in the U.K.?)

He can even slap a decimal on every chip with a sharpie.

Thanks so much for the detailed response! Haha, I can see how this becomes very addictive.

I have seen that website before however the chips are much more expensive and shipping to the UK is still relatively expensive. Thanks for linking the sellers - I think I will go down this route.

Thanks DrStrange - do you happen to know any sources of sample sets for the UK? I haven't managed to find majestic samples outside of the US and the shipping is laughable

This is a good idea, a couple of follow up questions:
1) How easy is it to remove and replace the stickers?
2) Are you able to link 'gears' please?

Apache chips are not having real inlays as far as I know, should be easy to just peel them, small scalpel might be handy. Replacing stickers should be also easy.

Same boat here! First set here will most likely be a Tina set from china as it seems the most affordable. After endless scrolling on the 2 chip forums I found I see that retired casino sets and the chips referred to as nagb are simply out of my wallets range unless you wait for the chip room sale to happen which also seems to sell out ultra fast only to see the same chips listed for sale later at much higher prices.

If you are not opposed to relabeling and these colors work for you, I have 200 red majestics and 200 lavender majestics I can sell you for about 40¢ each including shipping, assuming my quick check last night is accurate that it would cost about $60 to ship to the UK. Then you just need to find the 25¢ chips and I know there is someone on here now selling 200 of those. If you are interested, we can DM.
