Don’t call OmaJack at a table or @MatB will leave the meet-up and never return
I know this was said tongue-in-cheek (and I'm still struggling to find a downside), but if someone calls a game you don't like, don't be a baby about it or bitch about it. Just fold for 7 or 8 hands, and move on to the next game.

Agree and, just for background, it was a 100% a joking comment.

Additional context was that MatB was leaving anyway to get some rest at his hotel (it was the last day of DiD). He stopped by our table on the way out the door and we talked him into jumping in for a quick gamble...wasn't that hard by the way...lol. He played out an orbit, heard OmaJack called, said he wanted nothing to do with that devil's game, he needed a nap, and would return. I think he mentioned later he just crashed hard after 4 hard days of gambling which is totally understandable.

Or be like me and bitch and moan about it until the 2nd or 3rd hand, then raise POT MF'rs......

Don’t fold if you don’t know the game. Play every hand. Everyone knows that the newb always wins. ALWAYS!!

When @Sprouty offers you a gummy, and you think you are being smart by only eating half of it, you aren’t!

Don’t go crazy on day one. Most people do and suffer the consequences. It is a marathon, not a sprint. The Old Fashioned table is not where you want to pop your Meetup Cherry. Find a limit game if you can. The slow death is a less expensive learning curve.

Be like @onerand, take and post lots of pics (I think he does this mostly to figure out what he did and who he talked to each day when he wakes up) ;)

I ran so bad. all weekend. Yeah I was feeling downtrodden too.

OmaJack was the nail in the coffin, so I left for rest. This does sound like it was all @RocAFella1 's fault though.

And really though.. Bitch all you like. No one cares.

Did @WedgeRock call me a baby?

Wtf

I made that mistake before.

I've only done @Irish and @MegaTon44 meetups but here's what I learned:

Also, don't be afraid to sit down and ask questions. There are a ton of really cool people
Just because you don't know how to play the game doesn't mean you shouldn't be betting pot.
Don't accept candy from @Ben8257
Practice dealing on large crowded tables.
Be ready to fold quad Aces in a 4-5 card game if it’s pretty clear your opponent has a royal flush

The responses thus far have it all down pat. I'll just add/drive home the below points:

1. Bring more cash than you think you'll need, but assume that you're going to lose all of it by the end of the weekend. Set a mental note of how much you're ok with losing in a day. If you get to that threshold, make yourself a drink/grab a beer and hang out outside. Meetups are generally 3 to 4 days long and there's a lot of cards go be played.

More often than not, there will be a cigar/old fashioned table outside going where you can sit in a chair off to the side and sit and bullshit with everyone out there. If you have an especially bad day, if you're a good dealer and know the games well, you can offer to be the designated dealer for the cigar or "big boy" table. When I sit down at either, we almost always set aside a $20 spot per head at least to give to the designated dealer.

2. +1 on @Irish 's recommendation to not play poker from 10am to 2am every day. Take mental breaks and hang out outside and introduce yourself to anyone that may step out for a smoke/drink and listen to their bad beat stories. Most meet ups have groups that go out for breakfast/dinner together or have activities planned outside of the poker room. At @MegaTon44's meetup last year a group of us went mini golfing in the morning and still had plenty of time to degen that afternoon.

3. Offer to sponsor something in the meetup thread and treat the venue like your own space. Don't be a pig and throw your garbage amd recycling in the respective receptacles. Offer to help clean up at the end of the night before turning in.
