An unsolicited plug for Classic Poker Chips and David Spragg (2 Viewers)

What a nice thread and post to wake up to. CPC has been the brightest spot of my chipping experience IMO. I think we are very fortunate. David and Jim brought custom clay back from the dead in the hobby. They weathered a very lean 12 months recently but they are still there and making great stuff.

I don't know how old these guys are but when they are gone from the business, I think custom clay for us is pretty much over. I don't know if there are apprentices in training there when a changing of the guard happens a final time.

If there was one piece of advice here to anyone buying any chips at the moment. I'd spend that money at CPC ASAP!!!! If you haven't made that custom set yet, the opportunity won't last your lifetime I'm afraid. Just do it.

Well said. And what a scary thought honestly. I hope there is a plan in place to ensure CPC will continue for many more years. I for one would welcome the 1-1/2 hr commute to the Maine plant if they ever were to offer to train others to learn the art.

David and CPC make dreams come true for us chippers and we can not thank him/them enough.

Man I'd love to learn the techniques. Pipe dream would be to learn the ways of making clay chips and then open up my own shop. I'd continue to work for an airline and I'd fly the chips to you when they're done hahaha

This is exactly what David told me to to as well. I followed those directions and am giddy as can be
But you would have to be settled on your mold and chip design in order to pay, correct? You can wait on the label but need to know lvl and quantity of chips

Correct. Be sure to take your time on those aspects as well.
Yeah I’d like to get in line and before the pay increase. I have done designs on colors and edge spot, but haven’t settled on name and mold yet. So will have to be patient. Just emailed johnny5 to get in line for chip label design

I adore my ASM set on the MD-50 (DIASQR) mold. It was before David's time, but JimB did an awesome job.
Yeah those are great chips. It’s one of my absolute favorite samples that I own. Do love that mold too, but so expensive now

There is nothing like developing your unique idea into a great set of chips. I am extremely proud of how nice my sets are. David is super patient and great to work with.

Furthermore, if anyone is considering customs but hasn't yet pulled the trigger for some reason, I implore you, make the call! The experience is often an exercise in patience as virtually nothing happens at the speed you want it to. But it's also a unique, fulfilling journey. Chip design, inlay design, making it all work, struggling with color/spot/design choices, making the breakdowns work, even saving up for your ideal set...it's all an incredible process, wrapped up at the end with a bow that is your unique, custom chip set. Both the chips, as well as the memories of the process, will last a lifetime.

So yeah, if you're thinking about customs, pull that trigger and make your ideas come to life!

(And if you do, in for samples!)

I'm at the start of the grand adventure now for my first CPC customs. I've finalized my designs/quantities/denoms, and have contacted an inlay artist here at CPF. I'll be financially ready to order from CPC in March... so I'm definitely ready to hurry up and wait!

This thread needs more CPC pr0n! I had a great experience with David and am saving up to add a few more racks of $5s, a secondary $100 and a $500 chip to my set.
