Antarctic Deployments: Excuse for a custom set! (2 Viewers)

Thinking about some design aspects and wondering how people feel about these.

1. Different faces on different sides? Gives more room for beautiful artwork + the denom and text on the other. Weighing this option.

2. Writing on the edges? Got some bounty chips from @Sneakygreek and loved them, they say "reward". Curious if that's just a novelty or if I'd love that on all of them, PALMER or ICE or something.

I know its up to me but many of you have been chipping for a while and know what seems to work and what doesn't, figured I'd crowdsource a bit. I've started working with @mattross1313 , the designer that is written about in holy books. Amazing dude.

If you have many graphics and text elements that will otherwise crowd one side, then definitely split them among each face.

Ceramics should absolutely have something on the rolling edge, because it's one of the unique features of using them.

Good call. Do you have examples of ones you like, the edges? Thanks for your expertise.

@mattross1313 is an amazing artist and is one helluva worker. Design looks incredible, going with 43mm textured no mold from Tina. I know how many I need....but not sure how many I want lol.

Plus I'd like to be able to offer some samples for people that want them, the ice is magical, gotta include people. Is there an amount people usually buy as extras? New to this, and incredibly excited.

Make sure you buy extras not just for samples but for breakages and "spinners". You have to order in multiples of 25 so may post your breakdown and see how much interest there is for samples and go from them. Based on what Ive seen so far on china ceramics I would personally allow at least 5%-10% for breakage and spinners.

That makes sense, thanks for your experience. Im gonna show my cards and ask what spinners are? Ive seen the term but dont know how it affects chips, just big centers so they spin in stacks?

Breakdown wise, I just need the micro stakes. I havent spoiled the design just yet. Looking at:

5c - 210
25c - 250
1 - 260
5 - 220
20 - 120
1060 total. Thats way more than I need, but wanted to be able to expand stakes a bit. Numbers change every hour though.

Spinners are warped chips. Make stacks unstable.

If you need assistance in settling on a breakdown check out this thread

ok. Feels a little heavy on the 5c. You won't need more than 12-16 of the smallest chip. But I understand that 20x5c is $1 so might make it easy for purchasing chips to get a $1 worth.
It does seem like a crazy amount of 5cents I totally get that, but my dorks love to limp and play low. Just makes life easier.

Edit: was heavy on everything now that I look back! Going to blame it on chip creep lol, kept adding numbers for extras, samples, defects, rainy days...

Even apart from the chips, love reading this thread and seeing the pics! Makes me realize what I might have missed out on.

I was lucky (sort of) to make it down there in late 1967, when a one-star flag officer had the misfortune of dropping dead at McMurdo. I was Army, stationed at Fort Ord, waiting for my OCS course to start, and was one of those selected to fly down there and escort his body back to the States.

Only a day and a half on the ice, but enough to check the Antarctica box. I haven't been tempted to take one of those exotic cruises to Patagonia with sail-bys or stops in Antarctica, such as the one two of our neighbors just returned from...

Sorry to hear about the reason for the trip, we just lost someone at Palmer few years back. We gotta lot of respect for military, Navy CBs are the only reason Palmer got built.

As for checking the box, theres a lot of card pulling when it comes to the ice. Been there? How long? Ever do winter? How many? Been to Pole? So many hoops to jump through lol.

You bunch of monsters. I thought I would have the chips designed then have MONTHS to wait and eventually buy it. Nope. Set is ordered. Incredibly excited and nervous, never had anything custom, I don't even change the burger toppings at restaurants.

Reminded me of this set from waaaaaaaaaaaay back

Oh shit, where's that from?? Solid. Was thinking about sending a set down to Station but I know for a fact they'd just be stolen as souvenirs lol.
I don't know the date, but I'm pretty sure it's ASM from 2005 or earlier....... it's an old 'Blue Wall' (aka the Chip site we don't talk about ;) ) set from back in the day, I was lucky enough to get this sample set 4-5 years ago, but still don't quite know the history of it.....

edit: I work with scientists that go there all the time (some pretty famous in their circles actually), so it was cool to get the sample set.

MacTown is more than 10x the size of Palmer, damn near a city during summer. Always want to visit.

Easily one of my favorites. That's very realistic; South Pole station gets one sunrise and one sunset a year. Even Palmer gets iced in with no possible way to get to it, you're alone with 10 other people for the coming months of darkness.

We did summer seasons, and you could always tell what kind of winter it had been from the first few minutes on station. If it was good, everyone was boisterous and happy to see new/old friends for the turnover. If it was bad, everyone's tightlipped smiles and just excited to leave, spending time in their rooms or with headphones on. Its a spooky feeling.

Yup, they were JM’s.

Tina sent the pictures of the samples! Gorgeous, going to mass production now.

I'll be posting about selling sample sets with dealer buttons, at least 20 will be available for anyone who wants to chill in The Ice Cardroom.

What a neat concept for a poker chip set! I like the Iceberg Lounge, but they're all good.

Did you go to Rutgers? I'm class of 2012.
