I have minimal technical skills but want to try my hand at mocking-up some designs on an app that does a lot of heavy lifting for me. Something that gives more freedom than the pokerchipdesigntool and more control than Midjourney

Gimp for Photoshop alt and Inkscape for Illustrator Alt.

If you have any base (even loose) in Vector imaging, you can go on YouTube and learn alot of the basic stuff for inkscape. It takes a hint of work, but after a week or two, you can do a lot of the things you'd need to make a great Inlay or Hot stamp.

I don’t have photoshop. Will I need it to use those? I was hoping for an app I can putz around with on my tablet

I know Photoshop does have an app. Not sure if Gimp does. But Gimp and Inkscape are both 100% free and have 75% the capability of the Adobe products, so a great value if your not doing huge stuff.
