Anyway to revitalize chip friction? (2 Viewers)

CPS china clay chip mold has cross-hatching, if that's what you seek...... it was not popular wth the masses.

Yeah Im allergic to that cross hatching. Its hard to shuffle the chips and feels weird. Its too pronounced. We need that micro texture that Paulson have on CCs = win!

Yes, the CPS China Clay chips tried too hard, & there were "high dimples" all over the chip that seemed way more pronounced than Paulson or CPC's ....

Interestingly, we had factory mold cross-hatched samples in-hand, but they seemed inadequate...so we requested more crosshatching for our custom mold. The resulting original T&S mold cross-hatched samples (for the BLGOP chips) were absolutely fantastic..... but the factory subsequently reneged on it's promise to allow color modifications to fit our custom order which killed the project.

The subsequent crosshatched mold created for the CPS chips (by a different manufacturer) was too severe, imo. Approval of those pre-production samples was handled by someone else.

Could this be replicated in the upcoming Apache Horseshoe CCs?

I actually have the opposite problem with CPC chips. I prefer the texture of the MD-50 to most other molds because it has a much less pronounced crosshatching yet the chips are still extremely stable in stacks. I've never been a big fan of how rough the texture of heavy crosshatching feels.
I just wish that the CPC molds didn't have crosshatching in the center. Paulsons don't and that gives the inlays a nice smooth texture so the fine details render crisply.

Many Paulson THC chips have textured inlays, and that is one their most appealing features imo. I can't stand the smooth glossy inlays found on most modern RHC and home market mold chips..... and one of the main reasons I dislike CPC's FDL mold.

Same wrt THC, but I do like the glossy inlays on RHCs and FDLs.

I agree. The crosshatching on the inlays make it seem like the inlay is more a part of the chip and not just a label stuck on there.

Its a good point. Could someone like Gear offer textured inlays and if so, would they help make china clays less slippery?

Gear only offers labels, not inlays...... and you can't put inlays in china clays.

So.... No, No.

You know what I mean, labels, if labels could create more stick?

Think about it. If textured labels are creating friction, they're above the recess so they're essentially spinners.

Spinners. Friction. A lot of couples have issues but nowadays there are a myriad of products available to help.

Here is what I am talking about. Please don't make fun of me :)

Cool vid Mike. Hopefully the pros can weigh in. That motion looks a lot like the slippery China clays.

What happens when you twist the barrel like when looking for spinners?

Zero spinners, the whole barrel is flat as all hell. Which indicates enough friction to hold it all together. Weird huh?

I swear ive seen a similar thread here, last year. Someone had the same issue.

I think I remember. WTHC chips shipped from France. They were also slippery. Guy ended up resolving the issue. Let me dig.

Maybe I am reading into this too much. There really is nothing wrong with the chips after I washed them with warm water and dawn and gave them a day to dry out.

Just a tiny bit slippery but not unbearable :)

No way. These were also from France. They were from the last NPS sale. I snagged that lot ;)

Mike seriously dig up that thread. My Alzheimic brain swears it exists. I'm looking for it. I recall the guy claiming they were fakes but the issue got resolved.

I am on page 667. It's getting really really good.

As for the chips, going to try magic eraser and see if friction improves.
If this works, will try magic eraser on the wife and hopefully friction improves ;) @Tracy

Those are acting like they are warped, which is not uncommon for home market Paulson chips. What happens when you hold a small stack of 6 chips near the edge?

Magic Eraser will only wear down the clay surface, making them more slippery if anything.

I remember that other thread too, I think those chips just needed a thorough cleaning. Maybe the French are using some type of lube to oil the chips..... ;)

Yes, the originals feel very .... oily. I think they are just very very broken in. Maybe the French like to play poker while having buttery croissants? I don't know lol
