So, I’m looking for a moderate upgrade to my dice chips because I’m playing with more people (tournament style) and I want denominations to save the embarrassment of always asking what the value of the chip is. I’ve done some research and I’m not interested in the Walmart/Amazon selection, and I’m definitely not at the other end of the field with the Classic Poker Chip prices. I feel Apache Poker is my sweet spot. Little bit more expensive(still very reasonable) but the quality seems fantastic. I was looking at Casino Royale only because I’m a bond fan, shout-out to goldeneye 64 babbbyyy! Also thinking about going with Royals because they seem pretty fucking boss. So 400 chips plus a rack and a silver suitcase to carry them in came out to around 240. Seems good to me, am I sounding like I know what I’m talking about here? Any advice comments appreciated.

I also don’t really wanna get samples because I’m not a poker chip snob…yet. I like the feel of my other chips so I imagine this upgrade will do just fine. I’ve also formed the opinion that I don’t like Nevada Jacks but I have nothing to base that on, so maybe I am a snob already..wtf..???

Slappers only!

Welcome! Get samples first! Apache has lots of great options, but the royals are the cream of their crop IMO.

Also check out BRPro poker for affordable, top quality ceramics.

... But get samples. Some people think they're in love with a chip like the Majestics, but dislike something about them in person.

Despite this line, I would say grab some samples. I personally like my Dunes CCs and have heard good things about the Royals relative to the others, but they have a distinct feel/look/smell that is polarizing here. I parted with my samples, but someone else around here may be able to help you out in that regard. Apache is also a vendor here as an FYI.

Good luck and make sure you you use the search function so you can build an optimal set in terms of breakdown for your games.

You won't regret getting royals. Be sure to wash and oil them though.

Here is the difference between a dusty chip and a cleaned and oiled chip

Your players will definitely like and comment on the chips

I'm gonna go off the board and suggest something that might not be a popular opinion here...

If you KNOW you will never get sucked into the hobby / sickness that is collecting and appreciating poker chips, just get your Royals (or BRPro Poker option) and be done with it. Don't look back and enjoy what you have.

If you think you are going to upgrade in the future or suffer from FOMO based on what you purchase... then I'd take some more time getting samples to truly understand what you like in terms of look, feel and price.

Goldeneye: Multiplayer: 1 shot kills: Pistols: Complex......the only way to go.

When I first upgraded I bought the Casino Royales from Apache, bc I'm also a Bond fanatic. But I didn't like them at all. They're too heavy, and some were very slippery.

I will also acknowledge your desire to not acquire samples, and then contradict that assertion by saying it definitely helped guide my purchasing decisions.

Get samples! I don't necessarily have a commanding collection of them, but there are some individuals here that would allow you to borrow some to compare, if you ask nicely. ;)

How many people play in your tournaments? If you are just running a single table, there are plenty of breakdowns only requiring 300 chips. Royals and Majestics and Dunes are nice IMO. But yes, Apache is a a good vendor and a good place to get chips.

I’m sure you’re aware, but Royals are 43mm. Some people like the bigger chip, I personally do not like the bigger chip. But for price and looks, it is definitely a great option and a huge step up from dice chips.

Has to be one shot kills

agree the casino royales are too heavy. Bummer bc the plaques are freakin awesome.

So far we’ve gone from 6 or 7 people to 10 at the most. I cant picture it getting any bigger than that.

Yes, and last I looked, Apache didn’t have cases for 43mm chips, but it’s been a while since I looked.

I'm going to echo this and agree.

It sounds like you have a good handle on what you want already. I don't think you'll be disappointed with any purchase you make.

I went from dice chips right to customizing Royals for my own. And yeah, I probably spent too much money customizing them, but I love em, and have gotten plenty of compliments. I did however get some quick samples before hand from forum members here, but I think I had my heart set on Royals all along.

That label design is straight fire

I'm having flashbacks of many broken N64 controllers, and my parents coming down to the basement to reprimand me for screaming/cursing at 1:00AM
Dude, when I finally got good and starting whooping my brothers ass round after round; him hulking out and twisting and bending the 64 controller in ways it wasn’t meant to be will forever be ingrained in my mind, thought he was gonna kill me in real life haha.

More than a bit curious on this comment Evan. I am guessing meaning less than 10 players or less than 10k SS's

Even with the awful 8/8/6/6 - T10k SS for 10 players you have 280 in play off the break, not much room for chipping up or rebuys in a 300 chip set. Or T2k T5 based 10 players of 10/10/7/2 has 290 on the felt at the start.

There absolutely are thousands of different structures, but 300 seems a bit tight unless you are really budget stricken... if going with Casino Royales you are talking $16 a rack... I think I would splurge this time! Lol

For the record our 10 player SS's are T15k with a T25 base 16/16/12/7, yup 490 chips on the table when we start. Definitely a fan of more is gooder! Haha

To the OP I own Casino Royales, i prefer the 08 version over the current Apache, but ai have both because of the 25k and 100k chip
20200822_155357.jpg

The ones they sell now are definitely a bit more slippery but still awesome for a small home game!
20200822_155103.jpg

You can even start out with a Standard T25 set and overtime "upgrade" to a higher stakes set (starting with T1k instead of T25) and get some of those awesome plaques in play!

I will echo what others have said about the "Royals" they are truly awesome chips for China Clay and if your budget supports it I would recommend those as well over the Casino Royales... but again, these chips will get the job done!

Love this set. Ever have a black tie event?

I’m also surprised no one has made a casino royale felt table or casino de isthmus. I almost did that just last week w my table order.

If @PostalPoker2012 doesn't know about CDIs I'm sure their wallet be happy that we don't inform him of other awesome Bond chips! Doesn't sound like the kind of person looking for $3 plus per chips! Lol

So many table design Ideas and yet... so little space for tables! Uggh

Thanks for the reply! Yea I have a 300 set of dice chips that we play with that worked with less than 10 people. But our last game had 10 and we included rebuys so we were extra tight on chips. Luckily we found more chips that a friend had left behind the last time we all played. So I am looking to get about 400 so we don’t run into a shortage again.

No 3 dollar chips yet haha, maybe one day. Sounds like something I’d really like though.

Sure. T25/10K 10 players with rebuys and color ups only requires 300 chips. This is Dave's math, I just put it into a spreadhseet so that I could formulize the logic for multiple tables and configurations. I am cheap and when I just ordered my CPC set I wanted to make sure I was very efficient.

Although these are odd lot numbers and with CC's the OP has to round up quite a bit for the 25x rolls that Apache sells CC's. I wasn't thinking about that at first.

That being said, I personally prefer 12/12x/x stacks and I also like to do 1K on-time bonuses. SO the 400 count breakdown is a little more roomy...
