This is a pretty comprehensive post regarding oiling of new China clay chips. I followed I the "compression" oiling method he describes but you probably don't have to do that as it's pretty time consuming.

Another thing to note. If you ever do clean the chips with any kind of soap, it will draw out oils and you may need to reapply. It really depends on the situation. For Paulson chips, when I would clean them thoroughly in soap and warm water it would pull every out including any oils but with China Clays or any labeled chip, I don’t know that submerging in water too long is a good idea. There are oodles of posts in the poker chip maintenance section of the forum that discuss this.

I went from dice chips right to customizing Royals for my own. And yeah, I probably spent too much money customizing them, but I love em, and have gotten plenty of compliments. I did however get some quick samples before hand from forum members here, but I think I had my heart set on Royals all along.

So, I’m looking for a moderate upgrade to my dice chips because I’m playing with more people (tournament style) and I want denominations to save the embarrassment of always asking what the value of the chip is. I’ve done some research and I’m not interested in the Walmart/Amazon selection, and I’m definitely not at the other end of the field with the Classic Poker Chip prices. I feel Apache Poker is my sweet spot. Little bit more expensive(still very reasonable) but the quality seems fantastic. I was looking at Casino Royale only because I’m a bond fan, shout-out to goldeneye 64 babbbyyy! Also thinking about going with Royals because they seem pretty fucking boss. So 400 chips plus a rack and a silver suitcase to carry them in came out to around 240. Seems good to me, am I sounding like I know what I’m talking about here? Any advice comments appreciated.

I also don’t really wanna get samples because I’m not a poker chip snob…yet. I like the feel of my other chips so I imagine this upgrade will do just fine. I’ve also formed the opinion that I don’t like Nevada Jacks but I have nothing to base that on, so maybe I am a snob already..wtf..???

A little update, I ended up ordering samples just to see the difference between options I have. Got a sample of the Royals, majestics, and Casino Royale. Here we go!

We started playing poker again in 2016 and I decided to upgrade my dice chips we used since 2003. I went with Apache Majestics and they have been awesome. We have our next game this Saturday and last week I received a new T25 Tiki King tournament set from BRPro and they seem amazing (we had been using a T1,500 T5 base starting stack with way too many chips on the table since I didn't know any better but after reading on here I changed it to a T5,000 T25 base 12/12/5/1 so that should be much better). I'm really looking forward to using them. So, I don't think you can go wrong with a china clay from Apache or a ceramic from BRPro, or both!!! If I ever would get another set it would probably be from Classic Poker Chips but that would be far down the road. I would probably do another ceramic or custom ceramic before then.

I've been looking to build a small stakes cash set (0.25/0.25) and after a lot of looking around I'm thinking of grabbing the Royals from Apache as well. I'd really like to see samples but I'm in Canada so I don't think they'll ship them here outside of an order that's $200 and above like they say. might end up contacting them to see if they will but I guess it's doubtful.

On the other hand I have strong feelings on what I want (denominated, blue quarter chip, side spots with variations between denoms and not just recolours) so the Royals really hit the spot. From the quarter to the hundo all the chips look great to me, at least from the web site. The only real concern I have is whether they fit the usual aluminium chip cases since they're oversized.

But let's be real, the second the quarters and dollars get back in stock I'll likely be adding a 500 chip set to my cart right away...

I see you were referring in the first post about Royals and aluminium case.
Note that Royals are 43mm and will not fit in a standard aluminium case.

Racks are the way to go for 43mm. And then you can put the racks in a birdcage or if you need to transport them in a Pelican-like case.

Yeah, just went down the rabbit hole checking out what's out there for 43mm and it's not very straightforward. Some 43mm racks may fit in normal cages but hard to find (Matsui), others will only fit in oversized cages, some racks will only fit 95 of the royals, so on and so forth...

Thinking I'll get some samples and give my 3D printer a workout to figure out what I can do on my own and just use some standard 43mm racks without cage in the meantime. Foam's another option I guess. So now I'll go on the hunt for someone who can send some samples of the Royals and maybe the Bank chips from apache to me in Canada (or pay some $50 off eBay for them...).

Yes, during quarantine I learned Adobe Illustrator and designed my own labels, and had @Gear print them for me (he was an incredible help!). You can read more about my journey in the link in my forum signature.

Thanks for the reply! Yea I have a 300 set of dice chips that we play with that worked with less than 10 people. But our last game had 10 and we included rebuys so we were extra tight on chips. Luckily we found more chips that a friend had left behind the last time we all played. So I am looking to get about 400 so we don’t run into a shortage again.

400 tourney chips works fine for 10 players:

120 x T25
120 x T100
50 x T500
175 x T1000
35 x T5000

12/12/5/6/x starting stacks of 10k up to 25k (pending the number of T5000s included), using the extra T1000 and T5000 chips for color-ups.
