Are there table tops with enough cushion? (2 Viewers)

Hello!
I noticed there's 2, 70-inch long, tables at my apartment clubhouse.
Nobody uses them most days. I was wondering if there's a tabletop I could put on top which has enough padding so people can pick up their cards.
I am reading product descriptions on Amazon, but can't know until I really buy one.

Some are very cheap... and they do look they feature little or maybe no padding at all.
Should I buy the expensive ones? Do you recommend one?

Don't tell me to buy a poker table because then that means I would need to carry it to the clubhouse every night I host a game!

Those are very nice but don’t work well directly on a hard surface.

I would recommend trying to get a hold of a PCF topper. They’re 4mm and twice as thick as a lot of other toppers, including the ones mentioned above. Out of stock but if you’re lucky (as I was), you might be able to find someone here willing to sell you one.

If it was any thicker they'd be too heavy to haul 6 of them around.

The cards are difficult to pick up to peak. Not enough flex

Mine will work if you stack them. I offer a blank all black topper for half the price for this purpose.

For the same reason that poker tables need to have 1/4" cushion on the bottom so you can pick your cards easily (the cushion makes it easy for you to press your finger against it, creating a small gap that allows your finger to pick the cards)

Bought one of these before I got my PCF topper. Only downside is that it's neoprene which can crease of you aren't careful with it. I lay it out flat for a couple days before use and roll it up so it doesnt crease when stored.

Economical solution if you get a thinner topper is to just buy some table foam and cut it to fit.

Alternatively, one of my league members has a normal thin topper he bought off Amazon and I made him buy some shelf liner to go under it. It’s pretty cheap and definitely helped make his mat much more playable. I don’t know if he went with a single or a double layer though. It was much better than the last time we played at his house.

I made a basic topper for my dining room table back in the day, when I first started hosting.

Got a sheet of closed-cell foam. 1/4” thick as I recall. Cut it to fit the table top.

Got a few yards of fabric that seemed like the cards would slide on. I opted for a slightly textured outdoor fabric.

Got some 3M spray adhesive to attach the cloth to the foam. Sprayed the foam and carefully spread the cloth on top (easier with a friend.) Stacked a ton of books on it for a couple days.

Let the cloth just drape over the edge of the table. (How wide are your two tables? Standard bolt width is 54" iirc.)

This worked pretty well as a stopgap until I got a real table.

Only note would be that closed-cell foam doesn’t really like tone wrapped up tightly. So between games I either bring it to the basement or very loosely roll it up to avoid creases developing.

I usually have my @rjdev7 topper on our tables which have 1/4" closed cell foam but when we have taken it away and used it on a hard dining table, we haven't felt that there wasn’t enough give when picking up chips/cards. However, each to their own.

As the others have suggested, you could always get some foam/soft material to put underneath the topper, whichever one you end up going for.
