Limped 5 way pot in a 1/2 NL game. Mostly older, tighter crowd. We are about 15 mins away from closing and some people are looking to gamble before cashouts.

I looked down in the BB with :8h::3h , Hero is sitting with 180ish

FLOP comes :8s::4d::3d: ($10 in pot)

Small blind checks.

Action on Hero

What do you do?

UTG+2, CO, and Button are the remaining players behind.

Fold. This hand is obviously going to end in disaster.

However, if I ignore that immutable truth for a moment, I might bet $8 or $10.

Hero checks

Action checks around to button who makes it $12 to go.

SB calls $12

Action is back to hero

($34 in pot)

All stack sizes range from 150-300.

SB is VERY gambly Asian lady, has 4 ATM receipts in her cup holder from reloads

Button is tight older gentlemen. Standard OMC

Check-raise to $60, planning to shove any turn that doesn't murderously suck.

Agree with leading $10 - $20 depending on how observant my opponents are and whether the extra changes their calling % with one pair or drawing hands.

As played c/r I like $50ish but $60 probably makes no difference.

Hero check raises to $45

UTG+2 and CO fold.

Button and SB both call.

($145 in pot)

Turn is :2c:

Board now reads :8s::3d::4d::2c:

SB checks

Hero ???

I would bet about $90 - $110

Edit: My had I though I read you were 180bb deep not $180. Shove the rest in.

Shove. I mean, after all, we flopped two pair with < 100 BB, and now we're in a 72.5 BB pot. That :2c: didn't put any hands ahead of us except 22, A5, and 56. No reason to slow down now.

I hate this spot because if Hero started with ~$180 then that means we have ~$135 left. Normally I'd put in a bet of around $80-$90 here, but that only leaves us with a river bet of $50-$40. Hero needs to decide if he wants to put it all in now and try and fold out potential draws or check and assess the river. I think I opt to check here and see what Button does. I'm not too worried about the :2c:, but I am worried about what the flop gave Button.

The time for fear is past. If hero wanted to be careful, he check/calls the flop or maybe even bet/folds. Once Hero check/raised, the hand plays itself on the turn brick.

All in, pray for luck.

Action to Hero

Hero bets $75 into $145 pot, Hero was attempting to get this pot heads up, welp lets see how that played out

($220 in pot)

Button calls $75 (with $40 behind)

SB calls $75 (with $10 behind! TEN dollars behind!)

$370 in pot

River :as:

Board now reads :8s::4d::3d::2c::as:

SB open folds, accidentally flashing a :6d:

Brutally played hand by Hero

Hero checks

Button shoves remaining $40 in.

Hero sheepishly calls.

Button shows 52 offsuit for a wheel straight.

I understand that my logic was completely flawed by thinking that a check on the turn was the right play, and even against an OMC, not many hands are beating us. I'd be really interested in going into further analysis and hearing what others would have done post flop and on the turn, why, and why they feel it was the right decision.

In my opinion, stack sizes would have helped a lot in this thread and I also believe that a bigger check-raise post flop would have allowed for a shove on the turn that wasn't quite pot-sized, but still definitely big enough to fold out bottom pair and a draw.

Don't think Hero played the hand that bad to be honest. You got all but $40 bucks in way ahead, and had to call off on the river. I probably would have shoved the turn, but you did get a lot of value in while having the villain crushed.

sklansky bucks and galfond bucks can be cashed in at the cage at chippy's house?

Agreed with @Chippy McChiperson - hand not played bad and only better play would have been to try to get the money in sooner. I don't mind overbets when you have a super vulnerable hand like you did on the flop here. Check raise bigger on flop, move in on any brick turn (2c brick imo).
